The Chinese automaker AITO plans to enter the European market in the fall of 2027. The company announced this in October at the Paris Auto Show. There, the brand, which belongs to the Seres Group, unveiled four SUV series: AITO 6, AITO 7, AITO 8, and AITO 9. The manufacturer has not yet specified which models will actually be sold when it launches in Europe.
AITO was founded at the end of 2021 and develops its vehicles in collaboration with the Chinese technology company Huawei. While Seres provides the vehicle architecture among other things, Huawei oversees digital technologies and driver assistance systems for the Chinese models. The portfolio includes both pure battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid cars that use an internal combustion engine to generate electricity. According to the manufacturer, over 1.2 million vehicles have been delivered since its founding.
The SUVs displayed in Paris are offered in China under the model names M6, M7, M8, and M9. They are based on the modular Seres-MF platform, which supports various electrified powertrain concepts and integrates the engine, suspension, and electronic vehicle systems. The largest model, the AITO 9, is available in the Chinese market with both pure battery-electric powertrains and range extenders. Which powertrain options, battery sizes, and technical specifications will be available for Europe have not yet been confirmed.
For the planned market launch, AITO is working on obtaining the European Worldwide Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA), according to the company. This approval is required for the regular registration of corresponding vehicle types within the EU. Additionally, the company aims for a five-star rating under the 2026 Euro-NCAP testing protocols.
Parallel to the homologation process, AITO is preparing to adapt its vehicles to European traffic conditions. In particular, driver assistance and parking systems are set to be developed or modified in collaboration with technology partners for use in Europe. Media outlets, citing industry sources, identify Bosch as a potential technology partner for the international models.
The establishment of a European service organization is also part of the announced preparations. This includes local spare parts supply, digital vehicle diagnostics, mobility services, and proprietary customer service structures. Specific details on the first markets for sales, locations of German dealers, or European vehicle prices are not yet available.
With the planned launch in autumn 2027, AITO will expand its business, which has been primarily focused on China, to Europe following its already underway expansion into the United Arab Emirates.
