It has just arrived in Spain, but there is already a new Mazda CX-6e in China that is more equipped and costs half as much as a Tesla Model Y.

Mazda has refreshed the CX-6e, its mid-size SUV for the Chinese market, by adding a roof-mounted laser radar (LiDAR) that enables autonomous driving assistance on highways and in cities. Versions equipped with LiDAR start at 145,900 yuan, approximately 18,967 euros at current exchange rates, and are available with either a pure electric powertrain or an extended-range gasoline engine (EREV).

The Mazda CX-6e is known as the EZ-60 in China. It is the second model developed in China alongside Changan, following the Mazda6e (EZ-6). Both are already available in Europe. It is built on Changan’s EPA1 platform and shares a close relationship with the Deepal S07. According to local sales data, Mazda delivered 4,532 units of the CX-6e in August 2026, accounting for 45% of the brand’s total sales in China.

Four versions with laser radar at an extra cost of 1,560 euros

The versions with LiDAR cost 12,000 yuan more, about 1,560 euros, than their equivalent versions without it, in both the electric and extended-range variants. Additionally, the electric versions have an extra price of 6,000 yuan, roughly 780 euros, compared to the EREV versions. The new lineup is as follows:

EREV Pro 200 km LiDAR: 145,900 yuan (18,967 euros)

EREV Max 200 km LiDAR: 160,900 yuan (20,917 euros)

EV Pro 600 km LiDAR: 151,900 yuan (19,747 euros)

EV Max 600 km LiDAR: 166,900 yuan (21,697 euros)

Nearly half the price of the Tesla Model Y

The comparison with the Tesla Model Y in China is revealing. Tesla’s SUV starts at 263,500 yuan, around 34,255 euros, while the cheapest electric version of the CX-6e, without LiDAR, costs 139,900 yuan, nearly 18,187 euros. Overall, the current CX-6e range falls between 113,900 and 166,900 yuan, that is, between 14,807 and 21,697 euros. For reference, when the model enters international markets, it will start at 42,990 pounds in the UK, almost triple the price in China.

100% Electric and Extended-Range Options

The electric versions are equipped with a 77.94 kWh LFP battery supplied by CALB, offering a CLTC range of 585 to 600 kilometers, or 474 to 486 kilometers under the European WLTP cycle. It powers a single 190 kW (258 HP) rear motor, achieving a top speed of 185 km/h. The vehicle supports 3C fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 30% to 80% in 15 minutes.

The EREV versions feature a 1.5-liter atmospheric gasoline engine in the front that delivers 72 kW (98 HP) and functions as a generator. They retain the same 190 kW rear electric motor and top speed, but with a smaller LFP battery of 31.73 kWh developed by CATL and Changan, providing a CLTC range of 200 kilometers and around 162 kilometers under WLTP in pure electric mode. Their combined range far exceeds 1,000 kilometers.

Adaptive Driving on Highways and in Cities

The “Advanced L2” adaptive driving system handles over 200 scenarios, relying on three millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 11 cameras, as well as LiDAR. On highways, it operates at speeds from 0 to 130 km/h and allows overtaking slower vehicles through automatic lane changes; in cities, it functions at speeds from 0 to 80 km/h and can navigate intersections, roundabouts, and direction changes without driver intervention.

Comparison with the CX-6e Already Available in Spain

The European CX-6e, which arrived at Spanish dealerships this summer, is essentially the same car as the Chinese electric version, with differences in price, charging capabilities, and driver assistance features. The mechanics and battery are practically identical, and the equivalent WLTP range of the Chinese version (474-486 km) matches that approved in Europe. The differences lie in the price, which is more than double in Spain, the absence of a long-range version in the European market, and the laser radar, which so far is only available on the updated Chinese version. Additionally, the charging figures are not directly comparable because Mazda measures them across different battery segments.
