755 km of range, 450 km of charging in 9 minutes, and a price starting at 32,900 euros: this is the groundbreaking Xpeng G9L
Xpeng is preparing to launch one of its most ambitious models in China. The new Xpeng G9L will hit the Chinese market on September 17th. It is a five-seater SUV over five meters long that offers both electric and range-extender versions, along with an exceptionally fast charging technology.
The Chinese brand has already confirmed that the G9L will also be available internationally. In fact, its European debut is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show in October, where Xpeng will showcase versions developed for our market. The company claims the model is ready for sale in 64 international markets, though the price in Europe has not yet been announced.
The exterior design follows Xpeng’s latest aesthetic approach, featuring a completely closed front end with a prominent double light strip that runs across the entire width of the vehicle. The lighting units include digital projectors with artificial intelligence technology, while the front and rear lighting system spans over 6.4 meters in length and utilizes 480 independent light LEDs.
It also features an active grille that can open or close depending on cooling needs and driving conditions, aiming to improve both thermal management and aerodynamics. Digital projectors can precisely darken pedestrians and other vehicles, offering features such as lane change alerts or distance warnings from the vehicle ahead.
The G9L is 5.12 meters long, 1.99 meters wide, and 1.78 meters high, with a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. Xpeng will offer 20-, 21-, and 22-inch tires, along with five exterior colors. The rear design features a sloping roof line and an integrated spoiler at a 15-degree angle, aiming to give this large SUV a more dynamic appearance.
The most eye-catching features include the four electrically operated doors, a voice interaction system from the outside, and various welcome functions using lighting and projection. The G9L can even use an external DLP projection system equivalent to a 98-inch screen—a feature that is likely to be most prominent as a technological demonstration rather than an essential element in everyday use.
Inside, Xpeng has clearly focused on comfort and creating an atmosphere closer to that of a luxury sedan rather than a conventional SUV. The dashboard features a floating central screen, integrated instruments, an 88-inch front AR-HUD projection system, and an interior mirror with a 9-inch screen.
The seats are one of the most sophisticated features of the G9L. They feature an active adaptation system using artificial intelligence that can adjust its surface to fit the occupant’s body thanks to numerous pressure sensors. The driver’s seat uses 85 sensors and 29 groups of adjustment airbags, while the passenger seat has 91 sensors and 27 groups.
The front seats offer 24 electric adjustments, zero-gravity function, heating and ventilation at three levels, and massage via 16 independent points. In the second row, the G9L adds a 21.4-inch 3K resolution entertainment screen, along with an electric center console featuring four motors that include a wireless charger, a foldable table, and a screen to control various functions.
In addition, there is a 12.5-liter refrigerator with temperature control ranging from -6 to 50 degrees, a sound system with 33 speakers, and electric blinds that cover three areas of the cabin. The trunk has a capacity of 1,152 liters, with an additional 230 liters in a lower compartment.
Technology also plays a significant role in the driving assistance system. The Xpeng G9L features three Turing AI chips and the brand’s second-generation VLA system, with an announced computing power of up to 2,250 TOPS. This is one of the areas where Xpeng aims to set its new SUV apart from traditional models from European manufacturers.
Regarding the propulsion system, the G9L will be available in China as an electric version and an extended-range electric version (EREV), with both offering two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive options. The entire range utilizes an 800-volt architecture with high-power fast charging.
The electric version will be available with batteries using different technologies, providing CLTC ranges of 660, 702, and up to 755 kilometers. The two-wheel-drive version uses a 270 kW motor, while the four-wheel-drive version combines a 160 kW front motor with a 270 kW rear motor. In the latter case, the G9L can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.45 seconds.
The alternative model with an extended range option features a 63.3 kWh battery, along with a 60-liter fuel tank and a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine that functions as a generator, delivering a maximum power output of 110 kW. The two-wheel-drive version uses an electric motor with 210 kW of power, while the four-wheel-drive version adds a front motor with 160 kW of power.
In this case, the G9L achieves 435 kilometers of CLTC electric range and up to 1,602 kilometers of combined range. Xpeng also claims a 9-minute charging time that can restore over 300 kilometers of CLTC range for this variant, as the 450-kilometer figure applies to electric versions with the appropriate battery and configuration.
The starting price announced in China is 259,800 yuan, though this is for pre-orders and the final prices remain unknown. In Europe, fans will have to wait until the G9L’s launch in Paris to learn about its specifications and, most importantly, its price—a SUV that, with its size, features, and technology, is clearly aimed at higher-tier models.
The arrival of the G9L could be particularly interesting for Xpeng because it doesn’t just offer a large SUV with an enormous battery. With a length of over five meters, up to 755 kilometers of electric range, 1,602 kilometers with the range extender, an 800-volt architecture, and a charging capability that can restore hundreds of kilometers in just a few minutes, this model is highly competitive on paper. Now it remains to be seen how much of this advantage persists when the European version arrives.
