704 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and 1,312 kilometers of range for 27,300 euros: Dongfeng introduces a new hybrid SUV that may arrive in Spain.

Shoebox-shaped SUVs are popular in China, and Dongfeng has just added another contender to the list. It’s the M-Hero X700, a plug-in hybrid over five meters long that M-Hero, the group’s premium off-road brand, developed together with Huawei. It is already available in the Chinese market in four different versions.
Until now, all M-Hero models used ladder-frame chassis, the classic solution for pure off-road vehicles. The X700 is the first SUV in the brand’s lineup to feature a monocoque body, similar to those used in most sedans, and it is designed more for light off-roading than for extreme off-road conditions. It targets family customers who want to head to the mountains occasionally, and it has a clear rival: BYD’s off-road brand’s Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7.
A huge SUV with off-road capabilities

The X700 measures 5,035 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and between 1,890 and 1,910 mm in height depending on the version, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. Its size places it in the E segment, but its specifications show it’s more than just an urban SUV: it has a 37.5-degree approach angle, 38.3-degree departure angle, a maximum ground clearance of 328.8 mm, and a wading capacity of 800 mm. Additionally, according to the manufacturer’s official information, it features a mechanical rear differential lock to help overcome difficult terrains.
The chassis, named Bedrock 2.0 by the brand, features a double wishbone front suspension and a five-link rear suspension. The shock absorbers are magnetorheological, capable of instantly adjusting their stiffness, while the springs are dual-chamber pneumatic types, allowing the body to rise or fall by up to 150 mm across six levels.
Over 700 HP and CATL Battery

The mechanical setup combines a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine with 154 HP and two electric motors, one per axle. The front motor delivers 258 HP while the rear one provides 292 HP, resulting in a total output of 704 horsepower and 940 Nm of torque, according to the official presentation data. With these specifications, it accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.93 seconds, a figure typical of a sports car for its size.
The battery is made of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) by CATL and is available in two capacities. The 51.46 kWh version offers 285 kilometers of electric range on the Chinese CLTC cycle, whereas the 68.1 kWh version achieves 360 kilometers of range. The electrical architecture operates at 800 volts, and the brand claims a combined range of up to 1,312 kilometers.
Prices and Versions

In China, there is a rear-wheel-drive version with 325 kilometers of electric range and a three-wheel drive option. According to the official launch prices, they cost between 28,600 and 36,400 euros at the exchange rate, although they are available at a discounted price of between 27,300 and 35,100 euros for a limited time. All models come equipped with Huawei’s ADS 5 driver assistance system, featuring 27 sensors and a lidar.
Dongfeng models we can purchase in Spain
The X700 isn’t the first M-Hero to appear here. The M-Hero 1, an electric SUV with 1,088 horsepower, arrived in our country in 2024 for around 158,000 euros. Dongfeng’s current lineup is much more affordable, starting with the Dongfeng Box, an electric utility vehicle with 95 horsepower that achieves 340 kilometers of WLTP range and costs at least 25,995 euros before discounts.
One tier above are the two C-segment SUVs that are already available for reservation in Spain. The Vigo is electric, delivering 163 horsepower and a WLTC range of 340 kilometers, while the Mage is a plug-in hybrid with 299 horsepower, 89 kilometers of electric range, and over 1,200 kilometers of total range. They cost 29,990 euros and 31,990 euros respectively, so at current exchange rates, the cheapest X700 in China is less expensive than a Mage in Spain.
