700 km of range, 9-minute fast charging, and a price of around 19,000 euros: this Changan SUV aims to dominate the market
Changan has already set a price for one of its most interesting electric SUVs. The new Changan Nevo Q06 has just opened reservations in China with a lineup featuring an 800-volt platform, 6C fast charging, and a range of up to 700 kilometers, all at an estimated price of around 19,000 euros based on current exchange rates. This figure, however, applies to the Chinese market and should not be confused with a potential price for Europe.
The Q06 belongs to Changan Nevo, Changan’s new energy brand, and is positioned as a mid-size SUV with advanced technology. The company opened reservations on September 4, coinciding with the launch of its SDA Pilot autonomous driving system, which includes LiDAR sensors in all versions.
The exterior design follows the style Changan is using in its latest models. The front end eliminates a traditional grille in favor of a solid surface accompanied by an LED light strip that runs along almost the entire front. The shapes are quite clean, featuring an upward sloping side line, partially hidden door handles, and a rear end finished with another horizontal light cluster.
At 4,837 meters in length, 1,970 meters in width, and 1,670 meters in height, the Q06 is by no means a small SUV. Its wheelbase reaches 2,940 meters, a figure that helps explain why Changan was able to create a fairly spacious interior. On top, there is also a LiDAR sensor responsible for supporting advanced driver assistance features.
Inside, Changan has opted for a minimalist and tech-driven design. The Q06 features the SDA Cockpit 2.0 system, along with two TC399 processors and the artificial intelligence assistant Xiao’an. The driving position is dominated by a large central screen, while amenities may include heated, ventilated seats with massage functions.
The standard equipment far exceeds what’s typical in this segment in China. The Q06 can be equipped with a 15.6-inch entertainment screen for the rear seats, along with a refrigerator and various features designed to enhance comfort. The front trunk offers 196 liters, while the rear trunk reaches 782 liters thanks to a dual-height configuration.
Two powertrains and up to 700 km of range
The Changan Nevo Q06 range is particularly interesting because the brand doesn’t limit itself to a single configuration. The SUV is available as an electric model and also as an electric vehicle with extended range (EREV) – a format that’s gaining significant traction in China, allowing it to combine a relatively large battery with an internal combustion engine that functions as a generator.
The electric versions come in different power levels. The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration can deliver 225 kW (306 hp) or 245 kW (333 hp), while the two-motor rear-wheel-drive version reaches 330 kW (449 hp). The latter is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, a figure that places the Q06 in a very competitive position within its class. The horsepower figures are conversions from the official kW ratings.
But it’s likely the electrical system that draws the most attention. The Q06 features an 800-volt architecture with silicon carbide technology and supports fast charging at 6C. According to data released by Changan, it can go from 30% to 80% charge in just 9 minutes—a charging time that gets closer to what we expect from a conventional fuel fill-up than to what we traditionally associate with electric cars.
The battery range is also extensive. Changan offers capacities of 63.18 kWh, 66.02 kWh, 72.54 kWh, and 80.02 kWh, using LFP chemistry lithium batteries supplied by CATL or CALB. Depending on the configuration, the advertised electric range reaches up to 700 kilometers. In China, figures of 540, 570, 610, 670, and even 700 kilometers have been reported for various battery and version combinations.
The EREV system further increases the total range claimed. In this case, Changan claims up to 1,600 kilometers of combined range, although this figure should not be directly compared to the 700 kilometers of electric range, as the former takes into account the operation of the range extender.
There is also significant work on the chassis. The Q06 features an aluminum double-trapezoid front suspension and a five-link rear suspension, a setup that is uncommon among budget models and aims to combine comfort with more precise handling. In the two-motor version, both engines are also located on the rear axle, a configuration that is particularly striking.
Regarding the price, this is one of the key factors for the Q06. The official starting price in China is 149,900 yuan, which is approximately 19,200 euros at the current exchange rate. During the initial launch campaign, there is a special price of 147,900 yuan, equivalent to around 19,000 euros. The most expensive version costs 191,900 yuan, roughly 24,600 euros at the exchange rate. The conversion uses an approximate rate of 1 yuan = 0.1283 euros, so this is merely a monetary equivalence and not the expected prices in Spain.
The Chinese lineup also includes versions with announced ranges of 602 and 700 kilometers, along with different levels of the SDA Pilot system. The autonomous driving capabilities are divided into various tiers, featuring computing power of over 1,000 TOPS in the top version and functions based on vision and language models. LiDAR is available across the entire lineup, according to the information released when reservations began.
With all this, the Changan Nevo Q06 becomes another example of how far China’s automotive industry has progressed in segments where it was difficult just a short time ago to find such a combination of power, battery, electric architecture, and features. 800 volts, 6C charging speed, up to 700 kilometers of electric range, and a price around 19,000 euros make for a compelling package that’s hard to ignore. However, the most important factor for the Spanish market remains: whether Changan intends to bring the Q06 to Europe and, if so, how much it would actually cost there.
