510 km of range and 313 HP: the BYD Atto 3 EVO gets a discount of over 14,000 euros

510 km of range and 313 HP: the BYD Atto 3 EVO gets a discount of over 14,000 euros

The compact electric SUV market has become one of the most competitive in Spain, and BYD aims to stand out with a model that has evolved far more than it might seem at first glance. The Atto 3 EVO retains a recognizable appearance, but beneath its bodyshell it features significant technical advancements that place it in a very different position compared to the original Atto 3.

This is complemented by an especially aggressive marketing campaign. The BYD Atto 3 EVO Design is available at a promotional price of 28,888 euros, a figure that puts it very close to smaller models and may prompt buyers considering alternatives like the Skoda Elroq or MGS5 EV to reconsider their options. However, this offer is tied to financing and specific conditions that should be checked before comparing prices.

The appeal of the Atto 3 EVO lies not just in its price. BYD has introduced an 800-volt electric architecture, a larger battery, rear-wheel drive, and Cell-to-Body technology, turning this evolution into a car quite different from the Atto 3 we’ve known until now.

Exteriorly, the BYD Atto 3 EVO retains the overall proportions of its predecessor, though it features changes to the bumpers, tires, side skirts, and other body elements that give it a slightly more sporty appearance. It measures 4,455 meters in length, 1,875 meters in width, and 1,615 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 meters.

The trunk also improves over the previous Atto 3. It offers 490 liters of space at the back and adds a second front compartment of 101 liters, while with the rear seats folded down, it reaches 1,360 liters. This feature significantly enhances its practicality for those looking for an electric family SUV without having to opt for a larger model.

Inside, we see a significant evolution in the layout. The transmission selector moves to the steering column, creating more free space in the center console, while the 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster is combined with a 15.6-inch central display. It also features a browser, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger for compatible phones, electric front seats with heating and ventilation, and an electric rear door.

The Design trim featured in this offer also excels in terms of safety and driving assistance features. It includes a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, blind spot detection, cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and other systems.

Under the hood lies one of the key differences compared to the previous Atto 3. The BYD Atto 3 EVO Design uses a single rear electric motor with 230 kW of power, equivalent to 313 horsepower, and 380 Nm of torque, whereas the earlier model used a different configuration. As a result, this SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h.

The other major innovation lies in the platform. BYD utilizes an upgraded version of its e-Platform 3.0 along with an 800-volt electrical architecture and Cell-to-Body technology, which structurally integrates the battery pack into the vehicle’s body itself. The brand has also introduced a five-link independent rear suspension, a significant change from the design of the original Atto 3.

The battery has a capacity of 74.8 kWh and uses LFP chemistry. In this Design version, it achieves a WLTP range of 510 kilometers, a figure that places the Atto 3 EVO in an interesting position within its segment. Additionally, the V2L function allows the stored energy to power external devices at up to 3.3 kW.

The 800-volt architecture also has an important practical consequence. The BYD Atto 3 EVO supports up to 220 kW of DC power and can go from 10% to 80% charge in approximately 25 minutes. It supports up to 11 kW on AC power.

Against a certified range of 510 kilometers in combined cycle testing, BYD claims up to 710 kilometers in urban cycle testing. These figures are obtained under different certification cycles and should not be interpreted as equivalent road range. In a more conservative comparison, our estimate suggests the combined WLTP range would be around 444 kilometers under conditions less favorable than those in the certification cycle.

We come to the factor that has completely changed interest in this model: price. The BYD Atto 3 EVO Design had a reference price of 42,990 euros, but the current campaign lists it at 28,888 euros with financing, representing a difference of 14,102 euros from that reference figure.

There is, however, an important fine print. BYD’s current official offer states that the 28,888 euros applies to the financed price and includes various discounts as well as advances on certain subsidies and incentives. The promotion requires financing a minimum of 18,000 euros over at least 72 months, with a minimum stay of 36 months, and it is subject to approval by the financial institution. It also includes conditions related to the Auto+ Plan and energy savings certificates.

Therefore, the 28,888 euros should not be interpreted as the cash price of the car. BYD itself currently lists a recommended cash price of 36,313 euros for this configuration, while the 28,888 euro figure corresponds to the financed offer under the specified conditions with government subsidies.

Even with this difference, the campaign places the BYD Atto 3 EVO in a particularly attractive segment of the market. It is an electric SUV with 313 horsepower, a 74.8 kWh battery, an 800-volt architecture, fast charging up to 220 kW, a WLTP range of 510 kilometers, along with quite comprehensive standard equipment.

And that is precisely the most significant change compared to the original Atto 3. The EVO doesn’t just involve tweaking some design elements: BYD has revamped much of the model’s technical foundation, turning it into a far more competitive option against the new electric SUVs that have entered the European market.
