305,743 electric cars sold in one month: BYD breaks all records with its exports growing by 103%.

BYD has just set a new record that underscores the growing prominence of its all-electric vehicles. In October 2026, the Chinese manufacturer sold 305,743 electric cars worldwide, surpassing the 300,000-unit monthly mark for the first time. This figure represents a 37.4% increase compared to the same month last year and a 11.9% rise from September, marking three consecutive months of record sales.

The results are even more striking when examining the overall performance of its operations. BYD sold 490,168 electric vehicles in October, 11% more than a year earlier and 5.7% more than in September. However, behind these figures lie two very different trends: pure electric vehicles are growing strongly, while plug-in hybrids are seeing declining sales. At the same time, the international business is gaining increasing importance.

305,743 electric vehicles sold versus 177,382 plug-in hybrids

The difference between the two technologies is particularly significant. While sales of fully electric cars rose by 37.4%, sales of plug-in hybrids declined by 17.2% year-on-year, falling to 177,382 units. As a result, pure electric vehicles now account for approximately 63% of the passenger cars sold by BYD in October.

The figures include the four brands under the group. The flagship brand, BYD, accounted for 423,843 vehicles sold, while Fangchengbao reached 43,872 units. Denza recorded 15,152 sales, and Yangwang, the most exclusive division, reported 258 cars. These numbers represent the total sales volume for each brand, without distinguishing between electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

From January to October, BYD sold 3,621,744 electrified vehicles, 2.16% fewer than during the same period in 2025. However, fully electric cars totaled 1,935,700 units, up 5.86%, while plug-in hybrids declined by 11% to 1,625,969 vehicles. Thus, the growth in electric vehicles has not yet fully offset the decline in hybrids.

Exports surged by 103%, but sales in China dropped by 10.6%

Another key factor behind BYD’s results is its international expansion. In October, the manufacturer exported 170,194 vehicles, a 102.8% increase from the same month in 2025. This means that approximately 35% of its monthly sales already come from vehicles destined for foreign markets.

This trend contrasts with the situation in China. In its domestic market, BYD sold 319,974 vehicles in October, 10.6% fewer than a year earlier. However, this figure still represents a 13.1% recovery compared to September. Exports, on the other hand, declined by 5.8% from the previous month, though they still show remarkable year-on-year growth.

The difference becomes even more apparent when examining the first 10 months of the year. From January to October, BYD exported 1,513,154 electric vehicles, 93.75% more than during the same period in 2025. In other words, it has practically doubled its international business in just one year.

Almost two million electric cars sold in 10 months

The figures reflect a significant shift in BYD’s business structure. For years, plug-in hybrids have been one of its main drivers of growth, especially in China. However, pure electric vehicles are gaining prominence and have now far surpassed hybrids in both October’s sales and annual totals.

The contrast between 1.94 million electric vehicles sold and 1.63 million plug-in hybrids marketed since January illustrates this transformation. Additionally, strong export growth is helping to offset weakness in the Chinese market, where competition among manufacturers continues to intensify.

BYD has yet to exceed its total sales from last year, but its latest results highlight two particularly significant figures: over 300,000 electric vehicles sold in a single month and more than 1.5 million vehicles exported in 10 months. These figures demonstrate how much its expansion now relies on pure electric vehicles and international markets.
