200,000 registered Teslas in Norway

That means around 20 percent of all electric cars in Norway are Teslas.

Last night, Tesla Europe announced on X that the brand has surpassed 200,000 registered Teslas in Norway.

This milestone was reached exactly 13 years after the first Model S was registered in the country. That happened in August 2013.

Under four years for the next 100,000

Jumping forward by six years to December 2022, we see the first major milestone:

That was when Tesla reached 100,000 registered vehicles in Norway. By then, Tesla had already earned the title of Norway’s largest car brand for a year — greatly helped by the launch of the “budget” Model 3 (2019) and Model Y (2021) models.

From there, things progressed incredibly fast. The next 100,000 registrations were achieved in less than four years.

It’s actually quite wild, especially since this happened during a period when the so-called “Tesla shame” became firmly entrenched in public perception, largely due to Elon Musk’s increasingly extreme behavior.

Over half are Model Y

The “new people’s car,” the Model Y, accounts for over half of all registered Teslas in Norway alone.

It was also the first electric car model to reach 100,000 registered units. This milestone was achieved in May of this year:

But even a year earlier, in March 2025, the Model Y overtook the Nissan Leaf as Norway’s most popular car model — regardless of whether we classify them as electric or fossil fuel vehicles:

In 2023, the Model Y was also the first electric car ever to top the global best-seller list — competing with fossil fuel vehicles.
