BYD continues to demonstrate its ability to capture new segments of the Chinese automotive market. Its latest addition, the BYD Great Han, has already sold 4,000 units in just 19 days since its official launch on October 13. This is a particularly significant start for a luxury electric sedan aiming to compete in a category traditionally dominated by more established manufacturers.

The Great Han, also known as Da Han in China, is the new electric flagship of the Dynasty series. Its starting price is 235,900 yuan, approximately 31,390 euros at the current exchange rate, and it stands out for offering up to 1,008 kilometers of certified range. BYD believes this market launch strengthens its position among mid-to-high-end sedans, especially in the segment of vehicles priced over 250,000 yuan.

Strong sales but with a target of 10,000 units per month

The launch figures give an idea of the reception for the new model. With 4,000 units sold in 19 days, the Great Han has an average of about 210 cars sold per day. If it can maintain this pace, it might reach or even exceed 10,000 units in its first full month of sales. However, this figure is a projection and not an official target confirmed by BYD.

The manufacturer is also achieving good results with another of its larger models, the Great Tang. This electric SUV reached 14,000 sales in October and has now had four consecutive months with monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units. Both vehicles represent BYD’s strategy to expand its presence in higher-end segments, where it aims to combine technological features, performance, and competitive prices.

Up to 1,008 kilometers of range and 764 HP of power

All versions of this sedan are equipped with a 102.326 kWh Blade 2.0 battery. The rear-wheel-drive configuration features an electric motor producing 503 HP, delivering a range of up to 1,008 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. The all-wheel-drive version, on the other hand, generates 775 HP through two electric motors and offers a range of up to 880 kilometers under the same testing procedure.

According to BYD, the Great Han can recover 10 to 70% of its battery capacity in just 5 minutes using its Flash Charging system. To go from 10% to 97%, the claimed time is 9 minutes, provided there is compatible infrastructure and appropriate conditions are met.

The vehicle measures 5,256 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,510 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. These dimensions place it ahead of electric sedans like the Tesla Model S or Lucid Air in terms of length. It also features a dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and the God’s Eye B driving assistance system equipped with a LiDAR sensor.

BYD boosts its electric vehicle push with over 300,000 sales in October

The initial success of the Great Han coincides with one of BYD’s best commercial moments in the fully electric vehicle market. In October, the manufacturer sold over 300,000 electric vehicles in a single month for the first time, setting a new record for the company.

Although 4,000 sales of the Great Han still represent a small portion of the manufacturer’s total volume, its significance lies in the segment it belongs to. BYD aims to prove it can compete in the luxury electric vehicle market as well, where profit margins and buyer expectations differ from those of its more affordable models.

For now, the Great Han is available for purchase in China, and there is no official announcement about its arrival in Spain. However, its launch shows that BYD is finding buyers for its larger, more powerful, and more exclusive vehicles as well.
