The LIUX BIG made its global debut just a few days ago at the Paris Motor Show — where OMODA presented its affordable SUV and Zeekr, China’s best SUV, as an inexpensive urban electric vehicle, priced at 18,000 € or less.

In Paris, this electric vehicle designed in Spain and also manufactured in our country at a plant in Guadalajara shared the spotlight with, among others, Peugeot’s CEO and his strategy against Chinese manufacturers. Yet it stood out on its own as a unique vehicle, since much of it, starting with its body made from linen fiber, is recyclable.

A unique Spanish-made electric vehicle: affordable and recyclable

LIUX is a young brand born in Spain, specifically in Alicante, around 2021. In 2022, it introduced the Animal, an electric compact car whose main innovation was a body made from a composite material of linen fiber. However, the project did not proceed, and this “Made in Spain” brand tried again in 2023 with the Gecko; the predecessor to the LIUX BIG, which will be available for sale in our country in 2027 for less than 18,000 €… before any subsidies.

This electric urban vehicle is actually an unusual two-seater quadricycle measuring 2.76 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width, featuring a body made of linen fiber—a material that is highly recyclable. With a range of up to 270 km—previously, the brand claimed a maximum range of 230 km—it aims to offer an affordable mobility option for all audiences, expected to be sold for 18,000 € or less.

Techinally, this €18,000 electric vehicle made in Spain falls under the L7e category of electric quadricycles—like the Citroën Ami—and can be driven starting at age 16 with the B1 license already announced by DGT but not yet available.

Yet this LIUX offers much more than the small French electric vehicle. The Spanish brand intends to sell it equipped with a single 15 kW motor that can reach up to 35 kW/47 HP of peak power, enabling speeds of 90 km/h and an acceleration from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

That said, this engine can be paired with two battery options: one with a capacity of 15 kW and another of 20 kW, providing ranges of 215 km and 270 km respectively. Both batteries can be charged using a household outlet, with a power of 3.3 kW for the first and 4.8 kW for the second; this means a 0 to 100% charge takes about 5 hours.

Linen as an unusual… and recyclable material

It will have a 240 L trunk, and although it was announced that it would come with an 11” multimedia screen, it will ultimately feature a stand to hold our smartphone as the media center.

This electric vehicle stands out due to its steel chassis combined with a body made of linen fiber, secured using recyclable resin. According to the company, this combination allows for the recovery of up to 98% of the resin used and 100% of the natural fiber material in the components.
