1,770 km of range and 1,129 HP for 26,000 €: Geely’s new Defender sells 43,900 units in 1 hour before arriving in Spain

Geely has dominated China’s electric vehicle market for months with models like the E2, which recently arrived in Spain. But now it has decided to venture into a different field—quite literally. The Galaxy Cruiser 700, the brand’s first square-shaped SUV, went on pre-order last September 15th and received an immediate response: over 43,900 orders in the first 60 minutes, according to the company’s official figures.
The launch is not accidental. The segment of new energy square SUVs (like the Land Rover Defender) is growing rapidly in China, and Geely wants to compete with rivals such as the GWM H10 or BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao Ti7 — two models that have already gained a foothold among buyers seeking a robust vehicle without sacrificing family comfort. Recent reports suggest it may be available in Spain starting next year.
Six versions and an affordable entry price
The pre-order range consists of six versions, with prices ranging from 199,800 yuan, approximately 25,974 euros at the current exchange rate, to 389,800 yuan, around 50,674 euros. The highest-end version in the range is a limited edition of just 700 units, a direct reference to the model’s name itself. Its prices are truly competitive, which has been enough to spark interest from tens of thousands of buyers in China.
The Galaxy Cruiser 700 is built on Geely’s GTA architecture, developed specifically for new energy SUVs, designed to handle both family trips and outdoor off-road use. With a length of 5,085 mm, width of 1,999 mm, height of 1,895 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, it is a large SUV featuring a distinctly boxy body shape, visible reinforcements on the hood, and functional air intakes that enhance its off-road capabilities.
Three engines, 830 kW of power, and 1,770 km range
In mechanical terms, the Cruiser 700 offers plug-in hybrid powertrains with four-cylinder gasoline engines of 2.0T and 1.5T, combined with a three-electric-motor all-wheel-drive system capable of delivering up to 1,129 horsepower (830 kW). This is enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.95 seconds, a figure more typical of a sports car than a family SUV.
It features differential locks and a digital chassis system for AI-driven off-road assistance. It is combined with an active hydraulic suspension, CCD shock absorbers, and a terrain prediction system named "Magic Carpet". In terms of off-road capability, the Cruiser 700 offers a 30-degree approach angle, a 31-degree departure angle, and a ground clearance of 233 mm—figures sufficient to handle unpaved roads and uneven terrain.
All versions are equipped with a 47.14 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which provides an electric range of up to 305 kilometers under the CLTC cycle. The plug-in hybrid version with a 2.0T engine adds a 160 kW combustion engine, delivering around 218 horsepower, bringing the combined range to 1,770 kilometers (CLTC).
A market growing at a rapid pace
The Galaxy Cruiser 700 arrives at a time of clear growth for this type of vehicle in China. For reference, BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao Ti7 delivered 23,471 units in August, while the GWM H10 saw 10,178 deliveries in its first month since launch. Overall for the brand, Geely Galaxy sold 119,115 units in August, an 8% increase from the previous year, while Geely Group’s new energy vehicle sales from January to August totaled 175,877 units, a 19% year-on-year increase.
