When it comes to Chinese manufacturers “inspiring” themselves on other brands, this is more of a thing from the past; though there are still brands doing it, such as this SUV 4x4 that imitates the classic Land Rover Defender… or even this Chinese car that copies the successful Xiaomi SU7.

Now, whether intentionally or not, the owners of OMODA and JAECOO have experienced the same thing: their new Arizzo 7 hybrid stands out for its efficiency—with an average fuel consumption of only 0.69 L/100 km—as well as its performance, offering up to 1,700 km of range without refueling. But its design is very similar to recent Audi models.

Audi-like design for a hybrid with 1,700 km of range

Introduced at the previous Beijing Auto Show as the Arizzo S with a 2.0 T hybrid engine, Chery Group — owner of OMODA and JAECOO as well as Lepas, where we tested its hybrid SUV with free financing — has now unveiled the final production version of this car... which still bears a strong resemblance to the brand’s latest models, especially in the front end.

Just as with this premium electric vehicle that can reach 280 km/h, it was China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, MIIT, that released the first images and specifications of Chery’s new hybrid.

Thus, we are looking at a sedan that is 4.74 meters long — comparable to the 4.83 meters of the Audi A5 — 1.85 meters wide, 1.5 meters tall, with a wheelbase of 2.77 meters.

Mechanically, this sedan, which will be launched in China before the end of the year with no news yet on whether it will reach Europe, is offered as a conventional sedan equipped with a 1.5 T engine producing 105 kW/143 hp, as well as as a hybrid sedan. In the hybrid version, it uses an 82 kW/111 hp 1.5 L gasoline engine combined with another electric motor producing 71 kW or 97 hp.

In addition, this hybrid setup, which enables the vehicle to reach speeds of 180 km/h, is paired with a 19.527 kWh battery. This gives it an all-electric range of 116 km and a total range of over 1,700 CLTC kilometers—equivalent to around 1,400 km according to the Western WLTP cycle—according to the owner of OMODA and JAECOO.

While such a range of over 1,700 km is quite impressive, it has a direct cause: the average fuel consumption rated for this “Chinese Audi,” which is merely 0.69 L/100 km.

Could it make it to Spain?

With a fuel consumption of just 0.69 L/100 km, this hybrid is highly attractive in markets like Spain, but could we see it on our roads in the future?

The answer is yes, though perhaps not as an OMODA or a JAECOO, but maybe under the EBRO brand, Chery Group’s Spanish technology partner, which has recently launched a 224-hp hybrid SUV for less than 23,000 €.

Why? Well, although Chery Group has not yet indicated a possible date for launching this hybrid in foreign markets, it did present this car as a model “for the global market,” stating that its development took into account “the needs of over 70 countries.”
