1604 km and 1.96 seconds to reach 100 km/h. The Denza Z costs from 705,000 zł in Poland.

Denza Z: power is no problem

Denza has begun accepting orders for the Z model in Poland. It is the most powerful car in the brand’s European lineup, which belongs to the BYD group, and also one of the most powerful production electric vehicles officially available in our market.

Three variants will be available. The closed Coupe costs 705,320 zlotys, the soft-top Spider costs 782,320 zlotys, and the track-focused Racing version costs 855,360 zlotys.

In all cases, the powertrain is identical: three electric motors that together deliver 1604 HP and 1240 Nm of torque. One motor with 680 HP powers the front axle, while two motors, each with 462 HP, drive the rear axle. Power is distributed to all four wheels.

The coupe reaches 100 km/h in 2.25 seconds and can go up to 300 km/h. The spider model takes 2.3 seconds. The standard Racing version reaches 100 km/h in 2.25 seconds, while with optional semi-slick tires, this time drops to 1.96 seconds. Its top speed increases from 300 km/h to 350 km/h in that case. The sprint to 200 km/h takes 6.0 seconds.

76 kWh battery and even 1500 kW charging

The Denza Z uses a second-generation Blade battery with a capacity of 76 kWh. Its WLTP range is 410 km in Coupe mode, 400 km in Spider mode, and 380 km in Racing mode.

The charging technology is much more unusual. The manufacturer claims a maximum power of 1500 kW using a single connector. With the right charging infrastructure, charging from 10% to 70% should take five minutes, and from 10% to 97% – nine minutes. At -30°C, charging from 20% to 97% takes 12 minutes.

These are the specifications of Flash Charging technology, so a sufficiently powerful charging station is required to achieve them. Current standard European HPC chargers offer significantly lower power levels.

This is not a small two-seater coupe

The Denza Z Coupe is 4780 mm long, 1975 mm wide, and 1330 mm high. The Spider is 20 mm taller, while the Racing model measures 4870 mm in length and 1990 mm in width. The wheelbase is 2780 mm.

The curb weight exceeds 2.2 tons – the Coupe weighs 2230 kg, the Spider 2300 kg, and the Racing 2250 kg.

Interestingly, all versions are four-seater. The Coupe and Racing both have 250 liters of trunk space, and the Coupe’s trunk capacity can increase to 550 liters when the rear seat is folded down. The front suspension uses double wishbones, while the rear uses multi-link suspension. The Coupe and Spider feature air suspension, whereas the Racing has traditional coil springs. The brakes use carbon-ceramic discs.

Audi costs almost exactly the same

As for competitors, the Audi RS e-tron GT currently costs from 701,800 PLN – just 3,520 PLN less than the Denza Z Coupe. The Audi has 857 KM of power, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, and offers a WLTP range of up to 598 km. The more powerful RS e-tron GT performance model delivers 925 KM of power, reaches 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, and costs from 770,200 PLN.

This means the Denza Coupe’s price is almost identical to that of the base RS model, while the Spider, at 782,320 PLN, is only slightly more expensive than the RS e-tron GT performance model.

The difference in power, however, is enormous – the Denza has 1604 HP compared to 857 or 925 HP in the Audi. This raises the question of whether more always means better: while a power race may go on indefinitely, these horsepower figures still need to be utilized effectively.

The Porsche Taycan is more expensive if we want similar performance

The Porsche Taycan GTS currently costs 687,000 PLN, which is even less than the Denza Z Coupe, but it has 700 HP and accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.

The Taycan Turbo is much closer in terms of performance. It has 884 HP, reaches 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, and costs 815,000 PLN – placing it in price terms between the Denza Z Spider and Racing versions.

At the top of the range is the Taycan Turbo GT. It has 1,034 KM and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, or 2.2 seconds with the Weissach package. However, its price is 1,113,000 PLN and 1,114,000 PLN respectively.

According to the manufacturer, the Denza Racing with optional semi-slick tires is therefore faster from 0 to 100 km/h, while also costing over 250,000 PLN less than the most powerful Taycan.

There’s also the Lotus Emeya and the Chinese Yangwang U9

An interesting competitor is also the Lotus Emeya, which now belongs to the Chinese Geely group. The most powerful version of the 900 has 905 horsepower, AWD drive, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 2.8 seconds. The Emeya 900 Sport costs 611,000 zł in Poland, while the 900 Sport Carbon costs 682,000 zł. The model’s range reaches 610 km according to WLTP standards.

A technically closer relative to the Denza was developed within BYD itself. The Yangwang U9 uses four engines, generating around 1300 horsepower and 1680 Nm of torque. It reaches 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds and costs 1.68 million yuan in China, which is approximately 952,000 zł at the current exchange rate. However, it is not officially available in Poland or within BYD’s European sales network.

The Chinese segment of ultra-powerful EVs is growing rapidly. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has 1548 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds, and costs 529,900 yuan in China, which is around 300,000 złoty. However, it is a four-door limousine and is not currently officially sold in Poland either.

The Denza Z stands out primarily by not being limited to the Chinese market alone. Orders for the Coupe, Spider, and Racing versions are already being accepted in Poland, and their prices place this new model right between Audi, Lotus, and Porsche’s most powerful electric grand tourers. It cannot be denied, though, that in terms of recognition, reputation, and trust, Denza is far behind its European competitors. Will it be able to convince customers? We’ll see...
