Electric cars are no longer a novelty. Sales reflect a growing reality that shows no signs of slowing down. Vehicle registrations in Spain have risen once again. Last October, electric car sales reached a turning point with a 81.2% monthly increase, resulting in 18,184 sales transactions. On an annual basis, from January to October, 130,346 electric vehicles were registered in our country, representing a 41.87% increase compared to the same period last year.
No other market category is growing as rapidly. In October, more electric vehicles were sold than plug-in hybrids (15,480 units), and more than gasoline-powered vehicles (17,644 units). Over the 31 days of October, 100% electric vehicles accounted for 15.23% of the registered vehicle fleet, up from 10.79% of all registered vehicles since January. For the first time in our country, the share of electric cars exceeds 10%, although we are still far from the projections made at the beginning of the decade.

Many new entries in the Top 10, including one “Made in Spain”
Last October revealed the wide variety of electrical products available in our market. Although Tesla once again dominated, the list of the month’s best-selling cars was completed by a large number of brands, mainly Chinese and/or Asian. Speaking exclusively of manufacturers, regardless of engine type, Volkswagen closed October as the best-selling brand (7,671 units), closely followed by Toyota (7,563 units) and KIA (6,536 units). BYD’s threatening presence in fifth place with 5,306 units stands out.
If we focus on the most popular cars of the month, the Tesla Model 3 once again takes the top spot with 1,150 units registered. This American sedan accounts for 7% of the market share on its own. When we consider the overall figures from January to October, there were 9,618 units registered, representing an 8.23% market share and a 24.55% increase in sales. The Tesla Model Y is the second-best-selling electric car so far this year, though it didn’t even make it into the top 10 best-selling cars in its category in October.

Second on the monthly podium is the KIA EV3. This Korean vehicle once again ranks as one of the most popular electric cars in the country, with 721 units sold over the past 31 days. On an annual basis, the EV3 holds fourth place with a total of 4,549 units sold. Third place in October goes to the surprising Geely E2. The smallest model in the Geely lineup has sold 699 units, accounting for 4.26% of the market share. Considering it was launched last September, this is a remarkable achievement. In its very first full month of sales, it already ranks as the third-best-selling electric car.
Beyond third place, we find a wide variety of products and/or brands. BYD occupies the next three positions in the ranking with the BYD Atto 2, Dolphin Surf, and Atto 3, respectively. The Dolphin Surf remains the third-best-selling electric car of the year, behind Teslas, with a total of 4,817 units sold. The Leapmotor B10, now manufactured in Spain, rises to 7th place for the month with 450 units sold. The last three spots in the Top 10 are taken by the Changan Deepal S05, the electric MINI Cooper, and the Toyota C-HR+. Thanks to support measures, we could close 2026 with over 150,000 electric cars sold—a record for our country.
