1,000,000 kilometers and 3,500 charge cycles: this electric SUV has sold 200,000 units in 50 countries and now gets an updated battery

Zeekr is preparing a major update for one of its most successful electric cars. The Zeekr 7X will receive a new 85 kWh LFP battery in China, which will increase its range to 720 kilometers under the CLTC cycle. But what might be even more impressive is the durability claimed by the manufacturer: 3,500 full charge cycles and around one million kilometers while maintaining over 80% of its original capacity.

The update comes after the SUV has sold 200,000 units in roughly two years. The 7X is currently available in over 50 countries and regions and has become one of Zeekr’s key international models. The company, part of the Geely Group, aims to strengthen its position by starting with its home market, where this new battery will be available with the updated model.

A battery for 1,000,000 km of range

The new 85 kWh battery uses lithium-iron phosphate chemistry and was developed by Zeekr in collaboration with CATL. According to the company, it can withstand 3,500 full charge and discharge cycles before its available capacity drops below 80%. In terms of driving distance, the manufacturer claims it offers a lifespan of approximately one million kilometers.

Zeekr also states that this durability was calculated considering quite demanding conditions, such as frequent fast charging and using the vehicle in various temperatures. The brand claims that even with regular use of high-power charging stations, battery degradation remains within this target range.

The one million kilometers should therefore be understood as an estimated lifespan based on the tests and calculations provided by Zeekr, rather than a guarantee that any battery will necessarily cover that distance under real-world conditions. What matters is the threshold chosen, as after those 3,500 cycles, the battery would retain more than 80% of its initial capacity.

Up to 720 km of range and very fast charging

The battery also represents a significant improvement over the 75 kWh LFP pack currently used in China’s entry-level Zeekr 7X. Those additional 10 kWh allow the certified range to increase from the current 620 kilometers to around 720 kilometers, an extra 100 kilometers according to CLTC standards.

Zeekr also retains one of the model’s key technological advantages, namely its 900-volt electric architecture. The new battery supports a maximum charging rate of 5.5C and can go from 10% to 80% charge in approximately 10 minutes. These are particularly high performance metrics for an LFP battery, a chemistry traditionally associated with lower costs and greater durability.

The updated 7X will still offer a higher-capacity NCM battery for the higher trims. This option reaches 103 kWh and enables a CLTC range of up to 802 kilometers. Thus, the rumored 720 kilometers for the new LFP battery does not make this version the one with the longest range in the lineup, but it significantly improves the balance between capacity, range, charging speed, and durability.

An electric SUV that has already sold over 200,000 units

The Zeekr 7X entered the Chinese market in September 2024 as a competitor to models such as the Tesla Model Y. It measures 4,825 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,666 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,925 mm. Its update leaves these dimensions virtually unchanged and continues to use Geely’s SEA architecture.

The range includes rear-wheel drive versions and all-wheel drive variants with two engines. The latter achieve a combined power of 585 kW, equivalent to around 796 horsepower, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 3 seconds. The single-engine versions focus on range and efficiency. Its expansion has not been limited to China either. Zeekr claims the 7X is already available in over 50 countries and regions, including various European markets such as Spain, with cumulative deliveries of the model recently exceeding 200,000 units.
