10,000 orders in 4 minutes: Xiaomi achieves success once again, this time with its models priced at 27,000 € and offering 1,705 km of range

Xiaomi’s automotive division is no longer an exclusively electric company. After building its success on its first electric vehicles, the Xiaomi SU7 and Xiaomi YU7, the company has officially launched its new Sky Nomad line of plug-in hybrid SUVs. This range of extended-range off-road vehicles aims to gain market share in the competitive segment of large family cars, offering an alternative for drivers who don’t want to rely solely on charging. Just 4 minutes after announcing the prices and opening orders, Xiaomi had already received 10,000 confirmed orders.

The initial launch is offered through four commercial options: the five-seater N70 Pro and N70 Max models, the seven-passenger family variant N90 Max, and a special edition N90 Max Explorer designed for camping. The final prices set the entry price at 209,900 yuan for the N70 Pro, which is equivalent to 27,000 euros. The N70 Max costs 239,900 yuan (30,800 euros), while the N90 Max and Explorer start at 269,900 and 299,900 yuan respectively, corresponding to 34,600 and 38,500 euros.

SkyNomad N70: The 1.5-liter engine entry model

Techinally speaking, Xiaomi’s new Sky Nomad models are not plug-in hybrids. They are officially classified as extended-range electric vehicles (EREV). The entire lineup uses a common setup featuring a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine. This internal combustion engine is not directly connected to the wheels but operates at a constant speed to recharge the battery or supply power directly to the electric motors.

The smallest member of the family, the N70 Pro, measures 4,960 millimeters in length, 1,998 millimeters in width, and 2,950 millimeters in height. Its powertrain is powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 52 kWh, achieving a pure electric range of 351 kilometers under CLTC conditions and a total combined range of 1,351 kilometers. Above it, the N70 Max features all-wheel drive with two electric motors delivering a combined power of 310 kW (422 horsepower), accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, and uses a ternary lithium battery of 76 kWh that provides 505 kilometers of electric range and 1,461 kilometers in combined mode.

The seven-seater behemoth N90 Max and its camper variant, Explorer

To meet the higher demand for cargo and passengers, the N90 Max features a 2+2+3 seating arrangement. Its dimensions are 5,285 millimeters in length, 1,998 mm in width, 1,825 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,080 mm. It retains the same all-wheel-drive setup with a 76 kWh NCM battery, delivering 310 kW of power. This configuration enables 464 kilometers of pure electric range and up to 1,705 kilometers in combined mode (CLTC), along with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds.

The Explorer version is distinguished by its prominent double roof. It features a factory-installed, retractable electric mechanism that increases the interior usable height to 2,294 millimeters. This edition reduces its seating capacity to five passengers to allow the rear row to be folded down, creating a flat floor with integrated heating. Due to the weight and strength of the upper structure, its range is limited to 462 kilometers on electric power and 1,688 kilometers in total.

Pneumatic suspension and DC charging times

Both the N70 Max and the two variants of the N90 Max come standard with a pneumatic suspension system featuring variable-damping shock absorbers designed to handle the heavy weights of the Sky Nomad series. Additionally, their high-voltage electrical architecture supports fast charging stations that can charge the battery from 20% to 80% in 18 minutes, or restore up to 310 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. The big question arising after the launch is whether Xiaomi will also bring its new plug-in hybrids to Europe, with commercial release scheduled for 2027. Registration data show this is a growing market. The N70 and N90 would compete against other major rivals in the D and E SUV categories.
