Purchasers of BYD’s electric or plug-in hybrid cars will benefit from new terms that reduce their operating costs in the coming years. The Chinese manufacturer has reached an agreement with Iberdrola that includes electricity cost reductions for three years, along with significant discounts for those who frequently use public charging stations.

The partnership also affects the initial cost required to charge the vehicle at home, as new owners can obtain a free home charger and save up to 969 euros compared to the usual installation cost. This initiative is marketed under the name Smart Charging Plan and is aimed at the entire range of plug-in vehicles from the brand available in Spain.

Up to three years of benefits for charging at home and 50% discounts when charging elsewhere

One of the main measures of the program is to provide a subsidy for the electricity needed to travel up to 10,000 kilometers per year for three years. This amount is calculated based on a consumption of 16 kWh per 100 kilometers, so the benefit is limited to 1,600 kWh per year and is granted as a credit on Mi Iberdrola, provided that the terms of the supply contract and the Advanced Smart Assistant service are met.

The benefits also extend to trips that require use of public infrastructure. During the first six months, customers will enjoy a 50% discount on top-ups made through Iberdrola’s network, without the need to sign up for a paid subscription. In the following twelve months, they can access Plan Recarga + for free, which normally costs 9.99 euros per month, with a 20% discount applied.

BYD also reduces the cost of installing a home charger

Regarding private infrastructure, the agreement provides a free charging device for those who purchase a new BYD vehicle and arrange its installation with Iberdrola. The energy company will cover 50% of the usual installation cost, a measure that, combined with the free device, results in an estimated savings of 969 euros compared to conventional options.

The promotion includes both fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid DM-i models, and according to BYD’s official terms, it will remain valid until December 31, 2026, or until the inventory designated for this campaign is exhausted. The buyer will be responsible for covering the installation costs as specified in the estimate provided by Iberdrola.

This partnership will enable BYD to offer charging services alongside vehicle purchases through Iberdrola’s infrastructure, which currently includes over 12,000 public charging points in Spain. Iberdrola also operates around 100,000 public and private charging installations nationwide, a network that will support this new commercial program.
