Xpeng is Volkswagen’s best partner in China, but it’s not stopping there in Spain either. To expand its range of electric SUVs — we tested the G6, the best-selling model in our country — it keeps going, and after just opening pre-orders for its L03 SUV, which positions itself as a strong competitor to the Tesla Model Y, it will launch its larger sibling, the Xpeng L05, in the first months of the year.
There is a lot of anticipation around this SUV, which will be available as both an electric model and a ‘hybrid’ version with extended range. And for good reason — it’s just been released in China, and Volkswagen’s top partner wants to capitalize on this momentum by delivering 1,000 units in just one month. Moreover, this ‘hybrid’ SUV has already proven it can achieve 1,194 km of actual driving range.
1,194 km of range and 310 km electric range
Although it claims a range of up to 1,310 km in China, it is highly likely that in Spain, under the WLTP homologation cycle which is stricter than China’s CLTC, its actual range will be around 1,194 km, the figure this extended-range hybrid SUV has already demonstrated it can achieve.
Regardless, and for now, without knowing its official range, we can say that this new SUV from Volkswagen’s top partner, the L05, measures 4.87 meters in length, 1.93 meters in width, and 1.63 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.94 meters.
As we have already mentioned, in China the L05 is already available as an electric SUV as well as an extended-range “hybrid” SUV. Both versions offer a trunk capacity of 702 liters.
While the electric versions offer maximum ranges of 535 and 635 km respectively, sources close to Xpeng confirm to Híbridosyeléctricos that the Chinese brand will bring this SUV to Spain only as an extended-range ‘hybrid’ model — that is, one with a real range of 1,194 km. According to our information, it should arrive in our country during the first months of 2027, at the latest by the end of the first half of the year.

Speaking of the EREV variant of this new SUV, it is equipped with an electric motor of 183 kW / 249 HP and a 1.5 L gasoline engine producing 70 kW / 95 HP, which serves only as a power generator for the battery pack. The battery has a capacity of 37.2 kWh, enabling this new SUV to achieve an electric range of 310 km.
10,000 deliveries in just 1 month: Xpeng’s CEO’s goal
Volkswagen’s top partner held a ceremony to celebrate the delivery of the first units of its new SUV to their owners, during which Xpeng’s CEO, He Xiaopeng, stated that the company is accelerating the production of the model.

The production of the new extended-range hybrid SUV takes place at a dedicated facility—different from the one that produces the L03 SUV—and it is increasing with the goal of reaching 10,000 deliveries within just 1 month of its arrival at dealerships.
In addition to these statements, the company said its new SUV was developed with 82 countries and regions around the world in mind, and it is expected to achieve five stars in safety tests not only in China but also in those specific to Europe and Australia.
Thus, on October 26th, after selling out the 5,000 units planned for its launch day in China, this Volkswagen partner shipped the first batches of its new SUV to 65 countries; Spain is certainly among them.
