Holiday itinerary
Twelve days on the old national road from Chaves to Faro: Vila Real, Viseu, Serra da Estrela, Castelo Branco, Alentejo towns, the Algarve. Tesla and Galp; EN2 is Portugal's slow north-south, not a motorway.
Season: Year-round. Serra da Estrela holds snow into April; the tower road can close. Summer heat south of Castelo Branco is serious.
