Holiday itinerary

Eight days on the Norwegian Scenic Route Senja: ocean, fjords and mountains on an island that still feels like a secret next to the Lofoten posters. Tungeneset, Bergsbotn and the road that hangs over the water. Tesla in Tromso and Recharge in Finnsnes keep the hops short.

Season: Coastal road open year-round; winter storms and ice. Summer midnight sun, autumn northern lights. Ferries from Gryllefjord toward Andenes are seasonal.

Holiday itinerary

  1. Day 1 · Tromso

Leave the city under the bridge and take the slow road west. Tesla to 80 before the island.

  2. Day 2 · Finnsnes

Gateway to Senja. Recharge by the Gisund Bridge; we arrived at 26 percent after a photo every kilometre.

  3. Day 3 · Gryllefjord

Tungeneset in a wind that tastes of iron. The road hangs over rocks the colour of wet slate.

  4. Day 5 · Skaland

Bergsbotn viewpoint and a quiet night. Destination charger at the guesthouse; mountain wind ate three percent parked.

  5. Day 8 · Tromso

Ferry or the Gisund Bridge back. Last Tesla; Senja stays in the rear-view as a wall of peaks.
