Volkswagen unveiled the new electric crossover ID. Tiguan

The German automotive giant Volkswagen has unveiled the new electric crossover, the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan. This model was developed as part of the brand’s new strategy to move away from unconventional futuristic names in favor of traditional, historical names that are more appealing to conservative consumers. In the global model lineup, it is intended to completely replace the outdated electric SUVs ID.4 and ID.5.

The exterior design of the electric vehicle follows the new corporate style called Pure Positive, which gives the car’s silhouette a more monumental and traditional appearance compared to its predecessors. The front end features a complex LED light strip running the full width of the body for daytime running lights, along with large glossy black air intakes at the bottom of the bumper.

The main changes are in the crossover’s interior. Engineers completely eliminated the inconvenient touchscreen sliders and push-button controls on the steering wheel, replacing them with classic physical switches for managing the audio system, cruise control, and climate control. A new digital dashboard has been installed in front of the driver, integrated directly into the dash, featuring an original retro-style display that can simulate four analog needle indicators.

The crossover is built on the advanced MEB+ electric architecture. Buyers have three trims and two options for lithium-ion battery packs. The base version features rear-wheel drive, a 58 kWh battery, and an engine producing 187 horsepower. The mid-level trim also has rear-wheel drive but comes with a larger 77 kWh battery and an engine delivering 282 horsepower. The top-tier model is equipped with a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system offering a total of 295 horsepower, along with a similar 77 kWh battery. Thanks to optimized energy management software, the crossover’s maximum range per charge reaches 600 km according to the WLTP cycle. Its towing capacity allows the lower trims to pull trailers up to 1800 kg, while the higher trims are designed to handle loads of up to 2000 kg.
