Volkswagen has upgraded its largest road vehicle, the Grand California

German automaker Volkswagen has refreshed its flagship camper, the Volkswagen Grand California. The company improved the interior amenities and range of this large roadhouse, while also reducing retail prices. The highlight was the introduction of a special Dune Special Edition model aimed at enthusiasts who enjoy traveling in rugged conditions.
The Dune special edition features a more practical protective bumper. The body is painted in Ascot Grey, which complements the unpainted, durable plastic bumpers and side protective panels. The vehicle is equipped with exclusive matte-black 17-inch Lismore alloy wheels and themed graphics on the sides.
The interior of all Grand California variants features a new durable floor covering with Atami Bamboo imitation, additional storage compartments, and an ergonomic folding table. The dashboard is equipped with an updated digital cockpit featuring a 10.4-inch (or optionally 12.9-inch) display for the multimedia system.

Depending on customer preferences, the model is available in two body length options: the Grand California 600 (5.98 meters long) and the longer Grand California 680 (6.8 meters long). Unlike the brand’s smaller models, both versions come equipped with a fully functional kitchen, sleeping area, and a compact bathroom with shower and toilet.
The camper is built on Volkswagen Crafter’s commercial van chassis. Under the hood lies the only available engine option: a 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel producing 161 horsepower and 410 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can choose between a standard front-wheel drive setup or the brand’s proprietary 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
To enhance travelers’ range, the manufacturer has developed a new optional Off-Grid Package priced at 1450 pounds sterling. It includes high-efficiency solar panels on the roof and two lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries with a capacity of 40 Ah. The software associated with these batteries allows for a 40% increase in off-grid operation time.
In the UK market, the starting price of the upgraded camper is now 68,960 pounds sterling (excluding VAT), which is 1,000 pounds cheaper than last year’s version.
