China unveiled its largest battery-electric mining truck

In Luyang City, Fujian province, the launch of China’s largest electric-powered mining truck took place. The giant ZL230E model, manufactured by Zijin Longking, has a load capacity of 230 tons and a total weight rating of 350 tons. Its impressive volume is 125 cubic meters (!). The dimensions are 14 meters in length, 6 meters in width, and 6.5 meters in height.

The new truck is equipped with two 800 kW electric motors, one on each of the rear drive axles. They are controlled using advanced drive systems that provide coordinated and optimized output power. This allows real-time adjustment of power distribution between the axles to ensure stable performance on slopes and maximum maneuverability in challenging mining conditions.

Batteries with a high capacity (1400 kWh) can be charged to 90% in just 25 minutes, reducing downtime and improving overall operational efficiency.
Zijin Longking has also introduced a range of safety features for use in the harsh conditions of the mining industry. These include a patented high-strength frame, a dual-control chassis, backup braking and steering systems, as well as an intelligent energy management system. Together, they protect the dump truck’s structure, transmission, braking, and steering systems.

Zijin Longking is a subsidiary of the global mining company Zijin Mining Group, specializing in clean energy and environmental protection. Established through Zijin Mining’s significant stake in Fujian Longking, the company focuses on developing specialized heavy mining equipment, renewable energy sources, and electric dump trucks.
To date, Zijin Mining’s fleet of electric dump trucks has grown from 13 units in 2020 to 1,719 by 2025. The company holds a leading position in the industry regarding the electrification of mining equipment. It plans to fully transition its dump truck fleet from diesel fuel to electricity within three years, which will help reduce costs and carbon emissions simultaneously.
