The Mercedes‑Benz GLA Electric is a sharper, smarter urban SUV built for everyday life

Mercedes‑Benz is stepping confidently into its next electric chapter with the all‑new GLA Electric, offering a comprehensive redesign of its compact SUV that brings a more athletic stance, a fully reimagined interior and a next‑generation electric drivetrain.

At launch, the model arrives in Europe in three variants for the next model year: the GLA 200 Electric, the GLA 250+ Electric and the GLA 350 4MATIC Electric. For the U.S., Mercedes will only launch the 250+ and 350 4MATIC Electric variants. Each one is engineered to serve a different type of driver, but all share the same new design language and the same ambition to make electric mobility feel effortless. Mercedes‑Benz confirms a maximum WLTP range of up to 657 kilometres, placing the GLA Electric among the longest‑range compact SUVs on the market. Thanks to its 800‑volt architecture, the vehicle can add up to 270 kilometres of range in just ten minutes at high‑power DC stations with up to 320 kW charging capability. AC charging reaches up to 22 kW, and an optional DC converter enables compatibility with 400‑volt infrastructure.

The interior has been redesigned from the ground up, replacing the previous sculptural layout with a cleaner, more spacious architecture. The new MBUX Superscreen spans the entire dashboard, integrating driver, central and passenger displays into a single visual unit. Materials, lighting and ergonomics have been elevated, with Mercedes‑Benz describing the cabin as a "Fest für die Sinne" in the source text. Space has increased noticeably: the wheelbase grows by 61 millimetres, providing more legroom and headroom in both rows. Cargo capacity rises to 410 litres, or 1400 litres with the rear seats folded, and electric models add a 107‑litre frunk.

Technology plays a central role in the new GLA. The MBUX Virtual Assistant now uses generative AI to deliver more natural dialogue and contextual memory, while navigation is powered by Google Maps and enhanced by Google Cloud's Automotive AI Agent. The system provides detailed information on charging stations, parking availability and points of interest, and adapts routes dynamically based on traffic and driving behaviour. MBUX Surround Navigation adds a real‑time 3D environment view, showing vehicles, pedestrians and even the car’s own indicators and lighting states.

Safety and assistance systems have also been expanded. The GLA Electric features eight cameras, five radar sensors and twelve ultrasonic sensors, all connected to a high‑performance control unit capable of 254 TOPS. Depending on the selected MB.DRIVE package, the vehicle can assist with steering, lane changes, braking, acceleration and parking. New features include an automated lane‑change assistant and advanced parking functions such as MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360 with a transparent 3D vehicle model.

With its illuminated grille, redesigned proportions, expanded interior space and officially confirmed electric performance figures, the new Mercedes‑Benz GLA Electric positions itself as one of the most advanced compact SUVs in the premium segment. It combines everyday practicality with long‑distance capability, high‑tech comfort and a distinctly modern design language - an urban EV built for real life, but with unmistakable Mercedes‑Benz character.
