The primary and secondary automotive markets in Ukraine within the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment have shown a significant decline in consumer activity. According to official data from the “Ukravtoprom” association, nearly 4,600 electric vehicles were added to the domestic vehicle fleet last month. On an annual basis, compared to September of the previous year, overall retail demand for eco-friendly vehicles has dropped by exactly half. The main reason for this decline is the sharp drop in registrations of new vehicles, while imported used cars continue to account for the largest share of this market’s total volume.
The majority of electric cars sold in a month were passenger models—4,349 units. Of these, only 448 were new vehicles, reflecting a devastating 80% drop in demand. Secondary imports of used electric cars totaled 3,901 units, showing a less drastic 42% decline. In the commercial sector, 222 BEV registrations were recorded, with the vast majority being vehicles with prior mileage—only 10 were new vans. In terms of new passenger electric car sales, Chinese brands dominated completely: the BYD Sea Lion 06 EV took first place with 109 units, followed by the Volkswagen ID.Unyx at 35 units. The third and fourth places were shared by premium models, the Zeekr 7X with 33 units and the Zeekr 001 with 27 units. Another BYD model, the Sea Lion 05 EV, rounded out the top five with 24 units.
In the segment of imported used cars, consumer advantages remain traditional on Ukrainian roads. The American crossover Tesla Model Y has become the absolute leader in imported used car sales, with 512 Ukrainians owning it. Literally just behind it is a veteran of this class—the Japanese hatchback Nissan Leaf https://youtu.be/FIt9TsI7IoM, with 484 units sold. The third position is firmly held by the electric sedan Tesla Model 3 (468 units), https://youtu.be/vPCJSdVN1IM, followed by compact urban models such as the Chevrolet Bolt (200 units) https://youtu.be/U6sXay6sIWA and the French hatchback Renault Zoe (167 units).
