smart #5 Premium adds an AWD version

smart #5 Premium adds an AWD version

smart's annual update for the #1, #3 and #5 lands this summer with a quiet confidence, the kind that comes from a brand adjusting its lineup not through grand reinvention but through deliberate, targeted refinement. The headline change sits with the smart #5 Premium, which steps into the all‑wheel‑drive segment for the first time. The dual‑motor setup adds the kind of all‑season assurance European drivers have been asking for, while keeping the familiar comforts of the Premium trim - Sennheiser audio, ventilated front seats, heated rear Duo Leather, double‑pane glass, and the extended‑range configuration. The AWD version arrives at €2,500 above the rear‑wheel‑drive model, but the pitch is simple: the same elegance, now with traction that doesn't flinch at wet cobblestones, Alpine switchbacks or Nordic winters.

The update doesn't stop at capability. The Pro+ lines across the #1, #3 and #5 adopt a new Black Collection, a monochrome treatment that sharpens each model's silhouette without drifting into aggression. It's a coordinated aesthetic rather than a set of isolated accents: black grille, black diffuser, black side skirts, black belt line, black roof bars, and model‑specific black wheels. The #1 rolls on 18‑inch Amps rims in full black with Deep Jade Black exterior detailing; the #3 moves to 19‑inch Flux rims with the same finish; the #5 receives 19‑inch Orbit rims in gloss black paired with Meta Black exterior elements and concealed door handles. Privacy glass completes the look, and black body color is included at no extra cost. The pack sits at €600 above the Pro+ price and is clearly aimed at drivers who want their EV to feel more composed, more intentional, more like a single design gesture rather than a collection of features.

Inside, the palette expands as well. Three new interior trim options join the lineup, not to overwhelm customers with endless combinations but to create a curated set of choices that feel cohesive with the exterior colors. The brand’s language here is about expression without chaos - personalization that still feels designed.

All of this rolls out first in Italy, with other European markets following gradually. The update is framed as smart's response to a market where relevance must be earned each year, and where capability, design clarity, and personal expression matter more than ever. The #5 Premium AWD, the Black Collection, and the expanded color and trim options collectively push the lineup toward a more confident, more distinctive identity - one that doesn't chase trends but refines what already resonates.
