Renault has upgraded the electric hatchback 5 E-Tech

The French brand Renault has carried out a scheduled update to its compact electric hatchback, the 5 E-Tech. The main focus of the engineering work was optimizing the body components and electronics to increase the range per charge. The model continues to enjoy strong sales performance two years after its initial launch.

The updated hatchback’s exterior features styling elements inspired by the famous sports model Clio Williams from the 1990s. Buyers of the Techno and Iconic trims can now order a blue body color paired with original golden wheel rims. A new red shade called Flame Red has also been added to the color palette, and additional graphics can be applied to the roof and doors.

Inside, the yellow trim in the top-tier Iconic version has been replaced with a more subdued blue upholstery. The cabin is equipped with a Qi2 wireless charger featuring built-in temperature control, the multimedia system now includes Google Gemini voice assistance, and a new Smart driving mode automatically switches settings between Eco, Comfort, and Sport presets.

Thanks to targeted aerodynamic improvements to the lower body panels, side mirrors, and adjustments to the control electronics, the standard range of existing versions has increased by between 3 and 20 kilometers. The Urban Range version with a 40 kWh battery now covers 315 kilometers per WLTP cycle, up from the previous 312 kilometers. The higher-end Comfort Range model with a 52 kWh battery saw an even greater increase, raising its range from 410 kilometers to 430 kilometers.

The most significant addition to the lineup will be the launch of the new cheapest base version. The basic hatchback is equipped with a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 36.5 kWh, borrowed from the new Twingo E-Tech, and an electric motor producing 107 horsepower. Despite its lower capacity compared to the current 40-kWh battery, the reduced overall weight of the chassis results in an estimated range of 305 km for this lighter version. This base model now comes with an 80 kW DC fast charging port, whereas earlier base models did not have the capability to connect to fast charging stations.

The original Renault Clio Williams hatchback was produced in 1993 in just 3,800 units to officially qualify the French brand’s rally car for the FIA championship. The model name was inspired by the legendary Formula 1 team Williams-Renault, which dominated the “King of Racing” events during those years.

All vehicles in this series were painted in the vibrant dark blue Metallic Sports Blue color and equipped with exclusive golden alloy wheel rims from Speedline.
