A logistics company from the US will purchase 500 drone trucks.

Aura Innovation, a leader in autonomous freight transportation, recently announced a memorandum of understanding with Charger Logistics, under which Charger plans to purchase up to 500 trucks equipped with the Aurora Driver system. Deliveries are scheduled for 2027–2028.

Charger Logistics, operating in the U.S. and Mexico, intends to use these trucks on existing and new high-volume routes near the border and across the country.

Under the agreed contract, Charger plans to utilize the Aurora Driver as a Service (DaaS) model. By having physical assets, this will enable the company to minimize the total cost of ownership (TCO) as much as possible. For Aurora itself, this model means creating a highly profitable, capital-efficient business that requires no significant investment in fixed assets.

DaaS agreements are a key component of Aurora’s strategy, which aims to bring the number of operational autonomous trucks to 30,000 by 2030. Other Aurora clients are also interested in the DaaS model, seeking to own and manage their own fleets of autonomous trucks. This reflects both a high demand for large-scale autonomous freight transportation and clients’ confidence in Aurora’s ability to deliver on its goals.
