Lancia unveiled the new Gamma: will it become the flagship crossover symbolizing the brand’s revival, or a new failure for the company?

Lancia officially unveiled the new Gamma during a special event at the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Made in Italy (MIMIT) in Rome. This model holds special significance for the Italian brand: it will serve as the new flagship vehicle and the second production car since the launch of the new Ypsilon as part of Lancia’s major revival program.

The presentation was attended by Minister of Entrepreneurship and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, Basilicata region president Vito Bardi, Stellantis Enlarged Europe’s operating director Emanuele Capellano, and Stellantis Italy’s head Antonella Bruno. The company emphasized that the Gamma is a key component of the group’s new industrial strategy in Italy.

The new Gamma was entirely developed in Italy. Its design was created at Centro Stile Lancia in Turin, with engineering and production preparation also carried out by Italian specialists, while mass production will take place at Stellantis’ plant in Melfi. Around 30 local suppliers are involved in its production, about ten of whom are based in the Basilicata region.

The flagship model features a modern fastback crossover body style measuring 4.67 meters in length and is built on the STLA Medium platform. Buyers will have access to both hybrid and fully electric versions. According to the manufacturer, the hybrid version can travel over 1,000 km on a single charge, while the electric versions will offer a range of up to 740 km. A four-wheel-drive version with 375 horsepower will also be available in the lineup.

Stellantis states that the Gamma is intended to help Lancia enter a new market segment for the brand and significantly expand its customer base. Italy will remain the main market, but the model will also play a key role in the brand’s return to other European countries.

The new model made its debut in a symbolic year for the company — Lancia is celebrating its 120th anniversary. Following the launch of the new Ypsilon, the return of the HF sports division, and participation in rallies, the Gamma is set to be the next step in reviving one of Italy’s most famous automotive brands.
