Ford announced an electric Mustang Mach-E SSV for police use

Ford has expanded its 2027 model year electric Mustang Mach-E lineup with a special SSV (Special Service Vehicle) version intended for law enforcement agencies. For the first time, such a vehicle will be offered in its factory-assembled form, rather than as a modified version of the standard civilian model.

The Mustang Mach-E SSV is based on the base Select trim, but it includes a range of components from higher-trim versions. Specifically, it features a battery with an increased capacity of 91 kWh and a two-motor electric powertrain with all-wheel drive eAWD. Ford has not yet disclosed the exact specifications of the electric motors. The powertrain might be borrowed from the GT version, which boasts 480 horsepower, though there is no official confirmation of this yet.

Exteriorly, the police version of the Mustang Mach-E SSV features special front and rear bumpers, a black glossy trim on the radiator grille, and 20-inch alloy wheels. It also comes equipped with Brembo front brakes with red calipers and custom GT badges.

The standard equipment includes Ford Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0 driver assistance suite, front parking sensors, and a front trunk with water drainage capability. The trunk will be useful for transporting equipment that may require cleaning or rinsing. There is also an Unbridled driving mode available. It makes the response to accelerator pedal pressure more immediate, adjusts steering settings, and enhances regenerative braking.

The Mustang Mach-E has already been used by U.S. law enforcement in various configurations. For example, at the beginning of 2026, the police department in Dearborn, Michigan, received several specially modified Mustang Mach-E GT models. They were intended to be used, among other things, to address dangerous and aggressive driving. Electric vehicles from other brands are also gradually making their way into police services in the U.S. For instance, the police in Palo Alto use a patrol-ready Rivian R1S, while modified Tesla Cybertrucks are in service in Las Vegas. The introduction of the factory-built Mustang Mach-E SSV version is expected to simplify the purchase of such electric vehicles for agencies that need a vehicle with manufacturer-prepared technical specifications.
