Val di Funes and the Odle

Nine days on the quieter west side of the Dolomites: Bolzano, the cathedral spires of Brixen, Santa Maddalena under the Odle peaks, the meadows of Alpe di Siusi from Seis and Castelrotto, then Klausen and the Isarco valley back south. This loop stays clear of Val Gardena passes and the Sella ring. Charge in Bolzano and Bruneck; the high meadows are for walking and looking, not for racing the gauge.

Season: Late May to mid-October for open high meadows and clear Odle views. July-August lodges and Alpe di Siusi parking fill early. Shoulder weeks give quieter trails and cooler batteries on the climbs.

Day by day

Day 1

Bolzano

Start under the arcades and the museum of archaeology. Walk the Talvera promenade before the first climb; overnight Tesla keeps the morning quiet.

Why stop hereCharge nearby: Tesla Supercharger (Tesla Supercharger Bolzano) — typical arrival 28%, about 24 min to 82%. Why stop here: Bolzano. Access: walk from the overnight — leave the car.

Day 3

Brixen

The twin towers of the cathedral rise above the Isarco. Climb to the cloister frescoes, then the Hofburg courtyards — stone, shadow, and a town square that still feels like a market, not a pass-through.

Day 5

Santa Maddalena

The Odle ridge hangs over the valley like a sawblade. Walk to the tiny St. Johann church in Ranui for the postcard meadow, then the Adolf-Munkel-Weg under the pale peaks — this is the reason for the detour, not a charging stop.

Day 7

Seis am Schlern

From Compatsch the Alpe di Siusi opens into a green plateau under the Schlern wall. Ride the cable or drive the paid day access, then walk toward the church of San Valentino and the ridge views — keep Ortisei and the Gardena climbs for another trip.

Day 9

Klausen

The Sabiona monastery clings above the narrow town. Climb the path if legs allow, then follow the Isarco south toward Bolzano with one last quiet charge — the Odle stay in the mirror longer than the map suggests.
