High demand prompts BMW to accelerate iX3 deliveries in the USA
BMW North America is accelerating the market launch of the electric SUV iX3 faster than expected because of strong customer demand. Deliveries are reported to have begun ahead of schedule. In the USA, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive can be ordered at prices starting from $61,500.

In Europe, customers have been getting their iX3 electric cars deliveredfor several months now, while in the US, they are still waiting for deliveries to begin. The scheduled starting date for deliveries in the US is officially 25 September 2026, but according to reports from _Bimmerpost_ and _Electrek_, deliveries have already begun — even ten days ahead of the official starting date in the case of one dealer in California. The reason cited is “strong customer demand.” Currently, the 2027 model year of the BMW iX3 50 xDrive is available in the US. This is the all-wheel-drive version of the electric SUV, with an EPA-estimated range of up to 434 miles. According to US specifications, the iX3 can recharge up to 231 miles of range in 10 minutes with a DC charging power of up to 400 kW. BMW North America lists the starting price at $61,500.
The iX3 is BMW’s first representative of the Neue Klasse, meaning the new generation of electric vehicles from the Munich-based German luxury car manufacturer. In Europe, the electric SUV is currently available in two variants: the iX3 50 xDrive is the aforementioned all-wheel-drive model, and since the end of May, the rear-wheel-drive iX3 40 can also be configured. All iX3 variants are currently rolling off the production line exclusively in Debrecen, Hungary, including models for North America before they are shipped across the Atlantic. Parallel production is being prepared in Mexico starting in 2027. In China, a locally produced long-wheelbase version of the iX3 was launched in August this year.
In Debrecen, Hungary, BMW has just this month switched from a two-shift to a three-shift operation, effectively moving to round-the-clock production in response to high demand for the high-performance electric car. BMW recently confirmed it has received 100,000 orders for the iX3 in Europe alone.
At the same time, the manufacturer emphasises that it took approximately eight months to successfully transition the Hungarian plant to a three-shift operation, saying that it was “the fastest production ramp-up ever experienced by a new BMW Group plant.” BMW celebrated the start of production in Debrecen in October 2025, with actual series production beginning shortly afterwards. In March, BMW already announced that it would increase to a two-shift operation due to high demand, and the next step to three shifts followed just recently in September 2026.
For the model destined for the US market, BMW specifies a range of 383 to 434 miles and a power output of 463 hp for its high-performance electric SUV. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph is said to be achievable in 4.7 seconds with this drivetrain. BMW North America states the battery capacity as 112.2 kWh, with AC charging power of up to 15 kW and DC charging power of up to 400 kW.
The iX3 50 xDrive in North America is also equipped with bidirectional charging functionality — specifically V2L (2.4 kW), V2H (3.6 kW), and V2V (7.7 kW), so that the car’s battery can be used to power other equipment, another vehicle or a home. This functionality should eventually enable grid-stabilising by feeding energy back into the grid during peak hours and absorbing energy when renewable energy production is high.
