smart has officially unveiled the new all-electric smart #2 at the Paris Motor Show. Thirty years after the original two-seater concept debuted in Paris, the company is reintroducing its smallest vehicle on a new platform, with modern EV technology and a renewed focus on urban mobility.
Designed specifically for congested city environments, the smart #2 measures just 2746 mm in length while retaining the wheels-at-the-corners layout that made earlier generations instantly recognizable. The compact footprint is paired with a remarkably tight 6.95-meter turning circle, a combination intended to simplify maneuvering through narrow streets and crowded urban centers.
The new model preserves several signature elements from the original smart fortwo, including the distinctive split tailgate and contrasting two-tone exterior styling. Inside, smart has focused on maximizing space and practicality despite the vehicle's diminutive dimensions, creating an open cabin designed around everyday city use.
Underpinning the new model is smart's newly developed Electric Compact Architecture (ECA), a platform engineered specifically for the two-seater. Power comes from a rear-mounted 60 kW electric motor producing 130 Nm of torque and driving the rear wheels. The vehicle is equipped with a 35.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery rated for a targeted WLTP driving range of up to 290 kilometers. The battery also supports DC fast charging of up to 65 kW, allowing a 10-to-80% charge in approximately 20 minutes under optimal conditions.
One of the most notable engineering highlights is the introduction of a five-link rear suspension, which smart describes as a first in the segment. Combined with rear-wheel drive and a low center of gravity provided by the floor-mounted battery, the setup is designed to deliver enhanced handling, stability, and comfort compared with traditional city cars.
The smart #2 also features the latest evolution of the brand's trademark safety structure, known as the Tridion Cell Evo. Standard driver assistance technologies include smart Pilot Assist as well as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Highway Assist functionality.
The model will launch in Europe with three core trim levels: Pure, Pure+, and Premium. Even the entry-level variant includes LED lighting, vehicle-to-load capability, and a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance systems. Higher trims add features such as 11 kW AC charging, heated seats, a glass roof, premium audio, and expanded personalization options.
At the top of the lineup sits the smart #2 Couture Edition, a special model limited to 999 units in Europe. Distinguished by an Atelier White Matte exterior finish, Platinum Gold roof, exclusive wheel design, and premium interior appointments, the launch edition is aimed at collectors and enthusiasts seeking a more exclusive interpretation of the new urban EV.
The interior centers around a digital experience that includes a 10.1-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch driver display with 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth capabilities. Smart also includes an eight-year connectivity package and introduces a configurable dashboard-mounted "smart Pillar" designed to accommodate small accessories and gadgets.
The all-electric two-seater will be available for a binding order from October, 2026 across Europe. Starting at 19,990 euros in several European countries like Germany, France, and Italy, the smart #2 marks a new era for one of the most iconic city cars ever built. The full e-commerce launch will follow in the first half of 2027, when the smart #2 will become available through all smart online channels.
