Under the partnership, Yadea will supply electric two-wheelers and other products to Spiro, which will integrate them into its battery-swap station network. Additionally, the companies plan to jointly develop two-wheeler platforms tailored to local road conditions and commercial use. The partners have not disclosed specific volumes or a timeline.

Spiro currently operates in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Cameroon. In June, the company reported that it already operates more than 100,000 EVs and 2,500 battery-swap stations across its seven markets. A key focus is on motorcycle taxis, widely known as Boda Bodas in many African countries.

To further expand its operations, Spiro has raised significant capital this year. An initial funding round of US$215 million was extended in June by an additional $55 million dollars from Chinese investor NewTrails Capital, bringing the total round to the $270million dollars now cited by Spiro.

Yadea, an international vehicle manufacturer, is also joining the partnership. The Chinese company states that it has sold more than 100 million electric two-wheelers in over 100 countries and operates ten production sites. Spiro, for its part, contributes its existing battery-swap station network and operational presence in African markets to the collaboration.
