Voyah Passion S completes upside-down tunnel loop

Voyah Passion S completes upside-down tunnel loop

Voyah has put its new eSUV in the spotlight with a spectacular marketing stunt: the Passion S completed a full 360-loop inside a tunnel in Wuhan, briefly driving upside down on the ceiling. Behind the spectacle, the coupé-style SUV offers 800-volt technology, up to 740 km of range, and a competitive price for the Chinese market.

The five-metre-long battery-electric Passion S completed a full 360-degree loop in Wuhan, briefly driving upside down on the tunnel ceiling. Now, Dongfeng’s premium brand has launched the coupé-style SUV in China. Featuring 800-volt technology, a CLTC range of up to 740 km, and prices starting at 229,900 yuan (~€29,500 euros), the Passion S is targeting competitors such as the Xiaomi SU7.

The inspiration for this unusual marketing stunt dates back 16 years. In 2010, Mercedes-Benz featured an SLS AMG with Michael Schumacher at the wheel in a commercial, seemingly performing a loop through a tunnel. However, it was never confirmed whether the manoeuvre was executed as shown in the advert. Voyah has now recreated this spectacle for the significantly larger and heavier Passion S.

According to the manufacturer, the Passion S entered the steep wall of a closed test tunnel in Wuhan at around 130 km/h. A steering angle of approximately 16 degrees was reportedly required upon entry. Voyah claims the vehicle used was a standard production model, not specially modified for the attempt. This claim has not been independently verified.

After initial doubts emerged online about the heavily edited promotional video, Voyah released an uncut recording of the successful attempt. The full loop is visible, though the manoeuvre appears less flawless than in the advert. Additionally, footage of a previous failed attempt has circulated, in which a camouflaged Passion S lost contact with the tunnel wall and crashed.

Voyah Passion S: Up to 475 kW and two battery sizes

Beyond the marketing stunt, Voyah positions the Passion S as a large, sporty eSUV. With a wheelbase of exactly three meters, a length of 5.05 metres, a width of 1.998 m, and a height of 1.656 m, the model shares similar proportions with the Xiaomi SU7. Voyah markets the Passion S as an “FUV,” though this is not an established vehicle class.

Three versions are available in China. The two rear-wheel-drive models each deliver 300 kW and 390 Nm of torque. The base model combines this powertrain with an 81.6 kWh LFP battery, offering a CLTC range of 630 km. With the larger 98.1 kWh battery, the range increases to up to 740 km. Voyah states the 0-100 km/h sprint takes 6.7 or 6.9 seconds, respectively.

The top model features two electric motors. In addition to the 300 kW motor at the rear axle, there is a 175 kW motor at the front, resulting in a system output of 475 kW and a maximum torque of 765 Nm. The all-wheel-drive version accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, according to the manufacturer, and achieves a CLTC range of 700 km with its 98.1 kWh battery. While the rear-wheel-drive models feature adaptive dampers, the all-wheel-drive version also includes an adjustable air suspension.

From 20 to 80 per cent in 10 minutes

All variants of the Passion S deploy an 800-volt architecture with silicon carbide technology. The LFP batteries support a charging rate of up to 5C, according to Voyah. The manufacturer states that charging from 20 to 80 per cent takes 10 minutes, regardless of battery size. A specific maximum DC charging power in kW has not yet been disclosed. Additionally, the Passion S supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) with a power output of up to 6 kW.

For driver assistance systems, Voyah relies on technology from Huawei. The Qiankun ADS 5 is included as standard in all three variants. A total of four LiDAR sensors are installed, including an 896-line LiDAR at the front and three additional sensors for monitoring the vehicle’s immediate surroundings. Voyah counts 33 sensors on the vehicle in total. Inside, the HarmonySpace 5.2 software from Huawei is also used.

Voyah states the boot volume ranges from 584 to 1,744 litres, with an additional 80-litre frunk. Other features include frameless doors, an adaptive rear spoiler, and up to 21-inch wheels.

Passion S launches just below the Xiaomi SU7

The standard list prices are 229,900 yuan (~€29,400 euros) for the base model, 255,900 yuan (~€32,700 euros) for the rear-wheel-drive version with the larger battery, and 279,900 yuan (~€35,800 euros) for the all-wheel-drive variant. For the market launch, Voyah is offering the models at temporarily reduced prices.

This positions the Passion S slightly cheaper than the Xiaomi SU7, which starts at 233,500 yuan (~€29,900 euros). However, a direct comparison with European vehicle prices is of limited value, as taxes, tariffs, and other costs associated with a potential European market entry are not accounted for.

It remains unclear whether the Passion S will be introduced in Germany or other European markets. In May 2026, Stellantis and Dongfeng signed a non-binding letter of intent to establish a joint venture for distributing Voyah models in selected European markets. However, a concrete European launch of the Passion S has not been announced.

Nevertheless, with the Passion S, Voyah is introducing a technically ambitious electric SUV to the Chinese market, competing in an increasingly crowded segment with high charging speeds, a large battery, and advanced driver assistance technology. The tunnel loop stunt has undoubtedly secured the model the desired attention at launch.
