At the end of last year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) announced its intention to launch the ID. Buzz Cargo with a long wheelbase and the larger 86-kWh battery on the market during 2026. Now, the time has come: the longer ID. Buzz Cargo with all-wheel drive is available to order from today, while the single-motor variant can be ordered from next week. This means the cargo van is catching up with its passenger counterpart, which has already had a long-wheelbase version since summer 2024.

Pre-sales for the long-wheelbase ID. Buzz Cargo with 250 kW and all-wheel drive start today at prices from €50,630. The rear-wheel-drive variant will follow next week and can then be ordered from €48,490. The surcharge for the extended version compared to the standard model in Germany thus sits around €2,340. This includes an increased battery capacity from 79 to 86 kWh and a second sliding door as standard, among other things.

But let’s take it step by step, starting with the extension of the model itself: in the long-wheelbase version of the ID. Buzz, it is not the rear overhang that is extended, but the wheelbase. From the 4.71-metre-long standard version with a wheelbase of exactly three metres, the long model is stretched by 25 centimetres between the axles to 3.25 metres. Since the front and rear overhangs remain completely identical, the vehicle grows to a total length of 4.96 metres. As a result, the cargo space increases from 3.9 to 4.4 cubic metres. The loading area of the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB then measures 2.46 x 1.23 metres.

The extended cargo van is offered with the aforementioned larger 86-kWh battery and 210 kW of power. With the optional all-wheel drive (“4MOTION”), the system output increases to 250 kW. This latter model variant is the result of a recent technology update for the ID. Buzz, which also introduced one-pedal driving and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.

But let’s continue with the specifications: the maximum payload for the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB is up to 700 kg in the single-motor variant and up to 606 kg in the all-wheel-drive version. The maximum towing capacity is consistently 1,800 kg (braked at 8 and 12 per cent gradients).Volkswagen did not mention the range in its press release, but in response to an inquiry from our editorial team this morning, a company spokesperson stated that the range for the all-wheel-drive model is 430 to 460 km and for the rear-wheel-drive model 450 to 490 km. In response to an inquiry from electrive, the spokesperson also specified the DC charging capacity as 200 kW (10 to 80 per cent SoC in 28 minutes) and the AC charging capacity as 11 kW.

As standard, the long cargo van is equipped with a wooden floor and the aforementioned second sliding door. The width of the door also increases by 19 centimetres—”so a Euro pallet can now fit through the sliding door,” as VWN emphasises. The model is delivered ex-works with a large tailgate, though rear hinged doors are also available as an option. The Cargo LWB is available as a two- or three-seater and, more recently, with a manually adjustable lumbar support. Additionally, the operation of the ID. Buzz Cargo is to be improved by a multifunction steering wheel with newly designed push buttons.

Like all ID. Buzz models, the extended ID. Buzz Cargo also comes with the new brand infotainment system (“Innovision”) and an improved software package. For example, the optional “Travel Assist” now also responds to traffic lights: “At a red traffic light, the assist system automatically brakes the ID. Buzz Cargo to a standstill,” it states. Also new are the aforementioned V2L function (3.0 kW continuous and 3.6 kW peak power) and one-pedal driving, which allows strong deceleration and regeneration to a standstill via the accelerator pedal alone.
