Twingo-inspired Nissan Pixo set for September reveal
This month, Nissan plans to unveil an electric microcar called the Nissan Pixo - closely related to the Renault Twingo Electric and the newly unveiled Dacia Spring. Previously, Nissan used the model name Pixo for an earlier microcar.

Last year, it became clear that Nissan has been planning a new all-electric microcar for the European market; one positioned below the Nissan Micra, which is related to the Renault 5. While the name ‘Wave‘ was rumoured for some time, the revival of the Nissan Pixo designation – first rumoured in 2025 – has now been confirmed. (A combustion-engined microcar bearing the same name was previously sold between 2009 and 2013, based on the Suzuki Alto and manufactured in India.)
The Japanese manufacturer has now confirmed that the new Nissan Pixo will celebrate its world premiere on 23 September 2026. Little else is known so far, except that Nissan describes it as a vehicle that will “bring fresh, fun character” to the compact EV segment.

In a statement, the company said: “Small in size yet big in personality, PIXO is the newest addition to Nissan’s growing electric vehicle line-up. Created for modern urban life, it combines compact dimensions with intuitive technology and distinctive Nissan design, making everyday city driving easy and enjoyable. PIXO marks Nissan’s return to Europe’s A-segment, bringing customers across the region a new and more accessible option for everyday electric driving.” The Nissan Pixo also marks the brand’s return to Europe’s A-segment. With this model, Nissan aims to offer its customers what it calls “a new and more accessible option for everyday electric driving.”
It has long been known that the all-electric microcar – now known as the Nissan Pixo – will be based on the Renault Twingo Electric and the RGEV Small platform (previously called AmpR Small). Consequently, the specifications are likely to be similar: the electric Twingo measures 3.79 metres in length and, in its base version, is equipped with a 27.5-kWh battery. Combined with a front-wheel-drive system delivering 60 kW, it offers a range of 262 km.
Like the second generation of the recently unveiled Dacia Spring – which is also based on the Twingo Electric and the RGEV Small platform and measures 3.85 metres in length – the Nissan Pixo will be manufactured at Renault’s plant in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. This follows the announcement made by Nissan and Renault in March 2025 during the realignment of their partnership, explicitly stating that Renault would develop and produce a derivative of the new electric Twingo for Nissan starting in 2026. This collaboration aims to reduce development costs and timelines for both companies. The design of the Nissan Pixo, however, has been handled independently by the Japanese manufacturer.
Nissan and Renault have been long-standing partners. At one point, Renault held a 43.4 per cent stake in Nissan, while Nissan held 15 per cent in Renault. This asymmetric relationship was restructured in 2024, and since then, both automakers have held a mutual 15 per cent stake in each other’s companies.
