Vietnamese all-electric taxi operator Green SM has made its European debut in Copenhagen, rolling out a company-owned fleet of VinFast EVs.

Backed by Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, Green SM already operates in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, and India. Copenhagen is its first European city.

Green SM’s Danish fleet consists of VinFast VF 6 and VF 8 electric SUVs. And unlike ride-hailing services such as Uber, which connect passengers with independent drivers, Green SM owns and manages its cars and directly oversees its drivers.

The company says that the model gives it more control over everything from vehicle maintenance to the customer experience. Drivers undergo training in road safety, customer service, operating procedures, and EV use before picking up passengers.

Customers book and pay for a ride through Green SM’s app, which shows the fare before the trip is confirmed.

Green SM Europe CEO Richard Nabil Chahine said:

Cities shape the future of mobility long before companies do. Copenhagen is one of those cities. That is why beginning our European journey here carries special meaning for Green SM. We come with deep respect for the standards already established here, drawing on what we have learned from serving millions of journeys across Asia. Our ambition is simple: to become a trusted mobility partner by delivering safe, professional and fully electric journeys that people can rely on every day. If we earn that trust, growth will naturally follow.

To encourage Copenhageners to give it a try, Green SM is offering new customers five vouchers for 25% off a trip, with a maximum discount of 100 Danish kroner (about $16) per ride. The launch promotion runs through September 30.

Copenhagen is an obvious place for Green SM to test whether its company-owned electric taxi model can translate to Europe. But the company says it’s taking a measured approach to expansion and will initially concentrate on meeting Danish regulations, establishing its local operation, and adjusting the service based on feedback.

Green SM hasn’t yet said which European city will be next.
