The Republic of Moldova is a landlocked country covering around 33,846 square kilometres, with a population of nearly 3 million. The government of this small republic has now published a document to advance electromobility in Moldova. It includes specifications for the national charging network, funding mechanisms, and targets.

One of the most important points concerns the expansion of charging infrastructure. The number of public charging points is to increase from around 250 units (as of 2025) to at least 600 by 2030. At least 30 per cent of the new charging stations are to be built outside the capital, Chișinău.

Additionally, the roadmap stipulates that by 2030, battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids should account for at least 15 per cent of the national vehicle fleet. CO₂ emissions from road traffic should similarly decrease by at least 15 per cent (compared to 2025). To achieve this, the government aims to attract investors and create an environment to develop services for electric vehicles and train specialists.

“We are aware that the Republic of Moldova forms part of the European TEN-T transport network. In this context, we will introduce a legal framework based on this plan, along with an implementation programme,” stated Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
