Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: new battery options deliver up to 650 km range

Mitsubishi Motors Europe is switching to a slightly larger NMC battery with 89 kWh for the Eclipse Cross and introducing a mid-sized LFP battery with 67 kWh as another option. Renault has just announced the same energy storage systems for the electric Scenic. Both sister models share the same technology.

Mitsubishi’s electric compact SUV launched in 2025 with front-wheel drive, a 160 kW motor and an 87 kWh NMC battery. With the Eclipse Cross’ latest model update, Mitsubishi is introducing a 67 kWh battery with LFP chemistry, featuring a cell-to-pack (C2P) architecture and offering WLTP range of up to 472 km. The previous 87 kWh battery is also being replaced by an improved NMC battery with 89 kWh, increasing the Eclipse Cross’s maximum WLTP range to up to 650 km—compared to the previous 635 km. The electric motor, with its 160 kW output, remains unchanged.
Renault announced exactly the same battery updates for the Scenic just over a week ago. This comes as no surprise: the new Eclipse Cross is not a standalone Mitsubishi development but rather a project of the Renault-Mitsubishi-Nissan Alliance – though this alliance has shown signs of dissolution for some time. As a result, the second generation of the Eclipse Cross is largely identical to the Renault Scénic E-Tech Electric. Both are based on the AmpR Medium platform, which Renault recently renamed RG Medium 1.0. Incidentally, the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric also received the new LFP battery after its recent facelift. It consists of 232 tightly packed pouch cells integrated directly into the pack, achieving a space utilisation of 53 per cent.
The manufacturer commented: “Mitsubishi Motors Europe is strengthening its EV offering with the introduction of a new 67 kWh mid-range battery for the Eclipse Cross BEV. The long-range version is getting an upgrade to a more powerful 89 kWh battery. With these changes, the company aims to provide customers with greater flexibility to choose the range, charging performance and price point that best suit their lifestyle.”
At the car’s second generation launch a year ago, Mitsubishi had already announced a more affordable model with a smaller battery for mid-2026. At the time, it was assumed – similar to the Scenic – that this would be a lower-power variant with a 125 kW front-wheel-drive system and a 60 kWh NMC battery. However, Mitsubishi has yet to mention such a variant.

The new 67 kWh LFP battery offers DC charging power of 165 kW and is said to charge from 15 per cent to 80 per cent in approximately 24 minutes. For the 89 kWh NMC battery, Mitsubishi specifies a charging power of 150 kW and a charging time of around 28 minutes (15 per cent to 80 per cent SoC). According to Mitsubishi, this is about nine minutes faster than before. For AC charging, 11 kW is standard, but both battery options can optionally be equipped with a 22 kW onboard charger. The compact SUV’s towing capacity is rated at 1.1 tonnes.
Mitsubishi has not yet provided details on the prices or market launch of the updated Eclipse Cross. Currently, the model starts at €43,990 in the most affordable Diamant Plus trim, according to the configurator.
