Lucid’s market entry in France takes shape

Lucid’s market entry in France takes shape

Lucid is approaching its planned market entry in France for which the US manufacturer is collaborating with Emil Frey France. The Air and Gravity models are to be presented at the Paris Motor Show in October. So far, the American electric carmaker is still keeping details about the sales launch under wraps.

Lucid is advancing its European expansion by establishing operational structures to enter the French market and has partnered with Emil Frey France. The American luxury electric carmaker intends to organise its own import operations, taking direct responsibility for the brand, sales strategy, and customer experience.

While the Emil Frey France import division will support Lucid with various operational services, the American carmaker’s press statement does not specify which tasks its French partner will assume. Lucid has also yet to disclose details such as the number of planned sales and service locations or potential investments.

This means Lucid is not entrusting its French operations entirely to an importer. Instead, it is combining its own market presence with the infrastructure and experience of an established trading partner. Emil Frey France is already the official importer for Mitsubishi and Subaru and is active in vehicle sales, spare parts business, and other areas. In 2025, the company reported selling more than 193,000 new and used vehicles and achieving a turnover of 4.7 billion euros.

Lucid Air and Gravity planned for France

France’s model range will include the electric saloon Lucid Air and the SUV Lucid Gravity. The manufacturer plans to showcase both vehicles at the Paris Motor Show from 12 to 18 October, marking the brand’s first official public appearance in the French market.

France was already part of Lucid’s European expansion plans, announced at the beginning of 2026. In addition to Belgium, the company intended to launch in Denmark, France, Italy, Austria, Sweden, and Spain this year. While Lucid opened a test drive centre in Brussels, Belgium, in June, the planned market launch in Austria and Spain, originally for 2026, is likely to be postponed to 2027.

At the same time, Lucid is refining its European sales strategy. In addition to direct sales through its own locations and website, the manufacturer is increasingly relying on external partners. In Germany, for example, the automotive trading group Wackenhut was integrated as the first independent contract dealer. The cooperation with Emil Frey in France follows a similar approach, with Lucid itself taking on the import function.

While this makes the announced France launch more concrete, some key points remain unresolved. Lucid has not yet specified a date for the start of orders and first deliveries, nor has it provided details about the planned sales and service network. The Paris Motor Show will therefore initially serve primarily as the public launch for market entry.
