Kia PV5 Chassis Long Range gets 71.2 kWh battery as sole UK option

Kia plans to sell PV5 Chassis exclusively with its 71.2 kWh Long Range battery in the UK. The South Korean firm says the additional capacity is intended for operators with longer or less predictable routes and fewer charging opportunities.

According to the firm, the 71.2 kWh battery is paired with a 120 kW electric motor and supports DC charging up to 150 kW. Kia says charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes around 30 minutes, while a full 10-100 per cent charging takes around six and a half hours with an 11 kW AC supply. The same battery is already available in the PV5 Cargo and Passenger models in the UK. However, the Chassis version will be offered with the larger battery as its only choice. Kia originally planned to offer the 51.5 kWh battery at launch and add the 71.2 kWh version in 2026 – and while both options are available in other European markets, this doesn’t appear to be the case in the UK.
First announced for Europe in 2025, the PV5 Chassis is the conversion-focused member of Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) range. The exposed rear chassis can accommodate a range of different bodies; Kia’s UK conversion partner TSG Automotive Group is reportedly preparing tipper, dropside and box-body conversions for a Q4 2026 launch.
The Chassis uses Kia’s E-GMP.S architecture and measures less than five metres in length, with Kia highlighting its 5.5-metre turning radius as an advantage for urban operations as well as construction and other specialist applications. Final range and payload figures thus depend on the completed conversion and its equipment and load, although Kia has said the vehicles will offer “best-in-class” payload. electrive drove the PV5 earlier this year, testing the 71.k2 kWh variant which uses the same 120 kW powertrain and battery.
“Commercial vehicle customers need solutions that reflect how they actually operate,” said Erhan Eren, Director PBV at Kia Europe. “The 71.2 kWh Long Range battery extends the flexibility of the PV5 Chassis, giving businesses greater scope to balance distance, charging access and conversion requirements in one compact electric platform.”
Additionally, Kia has said the wider PV5 range recorded 13,116 registrations in Europe during the first half of 2026, accounting for 37 per cent of electric C-segment van sales – citing ACEA data.
