Green SM expands electric taxi and rental services in Indonesia
VinFast subsidiary, Green SM, has launched an initial fleet of 500 6-seater VinFast Green Limo electric cars for its ride-sharing, taxi and rental services in Indonesia. The Vietnamese automotive giant's ride-sharing subsidiary has also launched VinFast electric motorbikes as part of its service in the Southeast Asian country's capital and its largest city, Jakarta.

Green SM is expanding its rental, ride-sharing and taxi services in the populous Southeast Asian country. An initial fleet of 500 Limo Green electric cars are forming a 6-seat electric taxi service called Green Limo, aiming to elevate the “mobility experience in the premium electric taxi segment”.Green SM is also launching a program for drivers who will become “partners” with a choice of VinFast vehicle options, which now also includes the LimoGreen as well as the VF e34/Nerio Green, VF 5/Herio Green and VF 6.
The Limo Green is designed for “families, larger groups, business travelers, passengers carrying more luggage, and customers who value greater space, comfort and a smooth ride.” The larger electric car is VinFast’s mid-size seven-seat multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) with an NEDC range of 450 kilometres.
Under the motto of “Rent a VinFast. Become a Green SM Driver. Be Your Own Boss,” Green SM driver partners can acquire or rent the vehicles with an initial payment starting from IDR 2 million and rental fees starting from IDR 254,000 (equivalent to 12,38 Euros or 14,20 USD) per day.
Not just 4-wheeled taxis, two-wheeled mobility is key
Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populace country. The vast majority of people in Indonesia get around on two-wheelers. SM Green is not surprisingly also adding two-wheeled mobility to the “all-electric transportation ecosystem” the Vietnamese electric mobility company is developing in Indonesia.
Under this program, drivers gain access to VinFast Evo and Feliz II electric scooters. Customers can book the service directly through the Green SM app, choosing either standard ride-hailing or the Green Now feature for faster bookings.
The mobility service company says its expansion is expected to “create new income opportunities for two-wheel service drivers through flexible rental options designed to suit different needs and financial circumstances.”
Under this two wheeler scheme, drivers can choose a rent-to-own option starting at IDR 39,000 per day (1,90 Euros), with what the company says are “guaranteed earnings” of up to IDR 160,000 (7,80 Euro) per day and the opportunity to own the vehicle after two years.
Indonesia has suffered rising oil prices as the result of conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. With significant deposits of nickel, Indonesia has been pushing to locate more electric vehicle manufacturing within the country. With the sudden surge in oil prices however, the challenge is currently how to enable people to keep transportation going at prices the population can afford. Earlier this year, VinFast provided 20,000 electric cars to trasnport companies in Indonesia.
