GM to switch to native NACS charging ports for the 2027 model year

GM is set to switch all its EVs across its Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC brands to Tesla's NACS charging standard. From the 2027 model year onwards, all GM models will be able to charge at NACS charging points without an adapter.

We still remember clearly how, in 2023, major US automakers one after another announced plans to adopt Tesla’s NACS charging plug. However, during the transition phase, manufacturers relied heavily on adapters. GM was no exception: since September 2024, GM customers have gained access to Tesla’s Supercharger network via an adapter.

There is, however, one exception: the Cadillac Optiq is currently the only GM model featuring a directly integrated NACS charging port. All other models still lack this feature. Nevertheless, GM has announced that, starting with the 2027 model year, all new BEVs will be equipped with the NACS plug. This includes the new Chevy Bolt, which is set to return later this year as a 2027 model.

However, it remains clear that, as charging stations in the US will continue to offer CCS connections for the foreseeable future, vehicles with native NACS ports will still occasionally require a CCS adapter.
