GAC supplies 115 Aion EVs for Grab’s ride-hailing fleet in Thailand

GAC has delivered 115 Aion EVs for use on Grab's ride-hailing platform in Thailand through two separate partnerships: 100 units under a tie-up with CLVG and ICBC (Thai) Leasing, and 15 units through a collaboration with Siam Taxi Cooperative. It recently held separate handover ceremonies of these EVs in Bangkok.

CLVG, a local car rental and mobility solutions provider, has acquired the 100 EVs from GAC and leased them to Grab drivers. ICBC (Thai) Leasing, a subsidiary of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Thai) and part of the broader ICBC Group, is providing the drivers with financing support for the lease.

These 100 EVs are part of a broader agreement between GAC and CLVG to supply 2,000 EVs for ride-hailing services in Thailand. When the deal was first announced last year, CLVG also received the first batch of 100 EVs – made up entirely of Aion Y Plus units.

Images and videos from the handover event suggest GAC has now supplied a mix of two models: Aion UT and Aion Y Plus. The company assembles both EVs locally at its factory in Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong Province, where it rolled out its 10,000th vehicle last month. For retail buyers, it has priced the Aion UT at 519,900 baht (~€13,600) or 619,900 baht (~€16,200), depending on the trim, and the Aion Y Plus at 749,000 baht (~€19,600).

The 15 EVs GAC supplied to Siam Taxi Cooperative comprise the Aion ES and Aion Y Plus. Images from the handover ceremony show that at least nine units are of the former, an electric sedan priced at 846,000 baht (~€22,100) which is also assembled locally. GAC has positioned this model as a competitor to the Toyota Corolla, one of Thailand’s most popular ICE taxi models. It plans to deliver 85 more EVs to Siam Taxi Cooperative within three months, bringing the total fleet size under the partnership to 100 vehicles.

In the first half of 2026, GAC recorded 1,416 electric taxi registrations in Thailand, which gave it a market share of over 61 per cent. The Chinese automaker is taking new measures to strengthen its position in the segment. On Tuesday, the company launched a ‘Taxi Easy’ campaign with electric taxi rental provider EV7, under which qualifying drivers who want to adopt electric taxis may receive a subsidy of up to 5,000 baht (€131) to cover their initial expenses.
