EVgo’s 750 kW charging system is coming in 2027

EVgo has previewed a new DC fast charging system capable of delivering up to 750 kW. The system will share power among charging stalls, adjusting the amount delivered to each EV as its battery’s needs change. That, of course, will be subject to what power is available across the system.

EVgo is developing and testing the chargers at its Innovation Lab in El Segundo, California, with support from Delta Electronics. Each station will have a NACS connector, and the company says the design will include easier-to-handle cables and touchless payment.

EVgo claims the 750 kW system could charge the fastest-charging EVs currently sold in the US in around 10 minutes. It hasn’t specified the battery percentage range behind that estimate, and an EV’s actual charging speed depends on the vehicle, battery temperature, and state of charge.

Drivers will have to wait to try it. EVgo expects to reveal the final design and begin deploying the new system in 2027. That’s later than the H2 2026 rollout it projected when it announced its work with Delta in 2024.

The true test will come when several EVs plug in at once: how much power each gets, and how reliably the system delivers it. For now, EVgo’s 750 kW announcement is a preview of equipment that isn’t yet on its network.
