EVgo and Regency expand US fast charging partnership

Charge point operator EVgo and retail company Regency Centers are expanding their US partnership. This will see EVgo add more than 400 new fast charging stalls at Regency sites nationwide.

The two companies’ partnership became a reality when, in 2020, EVgo installed its first charger at a Regency shopping centre. Today, the CPO operates over 150 stalls at various Regency locations, which comprise of ‘grocery-driven’ outdoor shopping centres (aka ‘strip malls’).

The newly announced expansion of the partnership will now see EVgo install a further 400 chargers at Regency sites. In a statement EVgo said that these will be located at retail centres in metropolitan areas in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and other sites. It added that each new EVgo site built through the partnership will include as many as 24 high-powered chargers, which it claims are capable of delivering full charge in as little as 15 minutes – a charging window it calls an “ideal fit for grocery store locations” with an average dwell time of 23 minutes.

Scott Levitan, executive vice president of Growth at EVgo, said: “EV drivers are looking for convenient charging options where they already spend their time, like grocery-anchored shopping centers. Expanding our partnership with Regency will help us meet growing customer demand while making public fast charging more accessible in the places people shop, dine and connect with their communities.”

Mark Peternell, VP of Sustainability at Regency Centers, added: “Expanding our EVgo partnership grows Regency’s EV charging footprint and gives more drivers reliable, convenient access to fast charging at the properties where they already shop and dine. Increasing access to fast charging like this supports the widespread adoption of EVs and advances our broader sustainability goals.”
