Engie Vianeo builds four new HGV charging parks in Germany

Engie Vianeo plans to build four new truck charging parks at motorway service areas in Germany. Two of these are planned on the A7 near Homberg (Efze) and at Gramschatzer Wald, with the others located on the A2 near Lippetal/Hamm and on the A9 near Pfaffenhofen/Schweitenkirchen. MCS charging will also be available.

Engie Vianeo has announced the installation of two HGV charging sites at 24-Autohöfe locations and two additional sites under the Euro-Rastpark brand. As a subsidiary of the French Engie Group, the company oversees the entire operating model, from investment and construction to ongoing operation. Multiple collaborations with 24-Autohöfe are now planned to develop HGV charging parks.

Two locations have now been confirmed: at the 24-Autohof Homberg (Efze), a bottleneck on the A7 near Kassel, Engie Vianeo plans to commission three 400-kilowatt charging points and one MCS charger (Megawatt Charging System) with 1,000 kW in spring 2027. “With the central transhipment warehouse of the European logistics network ELVIS, an Amazon distribution centre, and a Palletways logistics hub, the site is characterised by high logistics expertise,” the stakeholders explained.

Four 400 kW charging points and one 1,000 kW MCS charger are also scheduled for installation at the 24-Shell Autohof Gramschatzer Wald near Würzburg in the first half of 2027. The initiators highlight that “the A7 is one of the most significant north-south routes in German freight transport and part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean TEN-T corridor, one of Europe’s most important freight transport axes.”

Roxanne Ruscheinsky, Member of the Management Board at 24-Autohöfe, commented: “Service areas are among the most efficient locations for developing infrastructure for alternative fuels. They are optimally accessible from both motorway directions and the surrounding region, combining charging breaks with gastronomy, services, and high-quality amenities. We are therefore delighted to expand our offering with ENGIE Vianeo to include high-performance and reliable charging infrastructure for electric HGVs.”

Jan-Niklas Ellerich, Managing Director of ENGIE Vianeo in Germany, adds: “With 24-Autohöfe, we are positioning our long-term site model on one of Europe’s most important freight transport axes. Our goal is to establish a seamless charging network along Europe’s key logistics corridors: 25,000 charging points across Europe by 2030, including 1,000 for heavy electric commercial vehicles.” Ellerich recently outlined how he plans to achieve this in a live presentation for electrive’s German site.

ENGIE Vianeo has been active in the German market since July 2025. Current reference projects include a major project with the Port of Kiel and the mandates from Autobahn GmbH (links in German) for a lot within the federally funded HGV fast-charging network in Germany. In total, around 50 sites in Germany are currently being developed by ENGIE Vianeo with charging infrastructure specifically for commercial vehicles. The four newly announced charging parks sit independently of these projects.

As the second partner for the charging sites, Engie Vianeo has introduced the service area developer and operator Euro-Rastpark. The French company will also build HGV charging parks at Euro-Rastpark locations in Lippetal/Hamm and Pfaffenhofen/Schweitenkirchen.

The site in Lippetal/Hamm is located directly on the A2, a heavily used east-west freight route between the Ruhr region and Berlin. Pfaffenhofen/Schweitenkirchen is situated on the A9 – roughly midway between Ingolstadt and Munich.

At the Euro-Rastpark Lippetal/Hamm, which offers over 215 HGV parking spaces, Engie Vianeo plans to install six 400-kW charging points and two 1,000-kilowatt MCS chargers by July 2027. At the Euro-Rastpark Pfaffenhofen/Schweitenkirchen, which currently records around 13,500 HGVs per day, six 400-kW charging points are set to go live as early as January 2027.
