Denza introduces cut-price Premium trim to expanding Z9 GT range

Denza's mid-tier Z9 GT promises big power and lots of tech for very little money (in China, at least).

Denza has added a mid-range Premium trim to its all-electric Z9 GT line-up, but it’s only available in China for now.

Priced at 329,800 yuan – around £36,300 – the Denza Z9 GT Premium undercuts the range-topping Performance model by around 40,000 yuan, approximately £4,400. Despite its lower price, the mid-range car delivers up to 534 miles of range from its 122.5kWh Blade Battery developed by parent company BYD. This means that the Premium can drive 25 miles further than the Performance edition.

While both cars share the same battery pack, these figures are taken from the Chinese CLTC efficiency cycle, which is usually more lenient than the equivalent European WLTP system. The battery comes with BYD’s Flash Charging technology, which promises charging speeds of up to 1,500kW, a 10%-70% charge in five minutes, and a 10%-97% charge in nine minutes.

As of the end of August 2026, BYD is reported to have installed more than 10,000 Flash Charging stations across 332 cities in China, meeting 50% of its full-year target. BYD aims to set up over 1,500 Flash chargers across the UK by the end of 2027, and price them at around 50p per kWh to undercut rivals.

The Denza Z9 GT Premium shares its tri-motor, e3 platform with the Performance-spec model. As such, it produces 1,122bhp with one front-mounted 304bhp electric motor and two 409bhp units. The setup translates into a 0-62 mph time of 2.7 seconds, just 0.1 second slower than its more expensive sibling.

To achieve the Premium’s lower entry price, Denza has swapped the rear carbon ceramic brakes for cast-iron discs, and the car’s press shots appear to display smaller alloy wheels. EV Powered has contacted BYD UK to confirm any additional equipment changes and whether the Premium trim levels will be offered in Europe.

Nonetheless, the Denza Z9 GT Premium retains the flagship’s DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension system and BYD’s God’s Eye 5.0 driving assistance technology, which introduces autonomous driving and triple LiDAR to luxury models, and single LiDAR for premium brands.

Denza also offers an entry-level, single-motor version of Z9 GT, which, like the Premium, is China-exclusive for now. Priced at 269,800 yuan – approximately £30,000 – it was introduced in March this year and manages up to 1,038 kilometres CLTC, or 852km (529 miles) on a single charge.

The Denza Z9 GT Premium is sold in the UK and is priced at £105,000. Denza debuted here at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, where, alongside the Z9, BYD’s electrified answer to the likes of Audi, Lexus, and Volvo officially introduced its D9 MPV, its BAO 5 off-roader, and its line of ‘Z’ performance cars to the UK market. Since its debut earlier this year, Denza reports that the Z9 is China’s best-selling GT.
