CX-6e: Mazda launches its second EV in Thailand

As in other international markets, Mazda is importing the CX-6e as a CBU from its joint venture with Changan in China, which manufactures the model at a factory in Nanjing,Jiangsu. It gives a choice of two trims: Premium and Premium Sports, priced at 1.259 million baht (approx. €33,500 euros) and 1.299 million baht (~€34,600 euros), respectively.

Mazda offers the CX-6e in Thailand in only one technical configuration, featuring a combination of a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 190 kW and 290 Nm of torque and a 77.9 kWh LFP battery pack that supports charging at up to 11 kW (AC)/194 kW (DC). This setup allows the CX-6e to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 7.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 185 kph.

Via an AC charger, the LFP battery pack fully charges in as little as 7 hours and 53 minutes, while via a DC charger, a 10 to 80 per cent charging session is possible in as little as 24 minutes. In the Premium trim, the CX-6e consumes 168 Wh/km and travels 484 kilometres on a single charge, as per WLTP. The Premium Sports trim increases the consumption to 170 Wh/km and reduces the WLTP range to 468 kilometres.

Mazda equips the CX-6e in the Premium trim with features such as 19-inch alloy wheels, power tailgate, panoramic glass roof, ventilated and heated front seats with 10-way (driver)/4-way (passenger) adjustment and a memory function (driver-only), AR-HUD, a 256-colour ambient lighting system, a 26.45-inch 5K touchscreen infotainment system, and a 23-speaker sound system. The Premium Sports trim brings upgrades such as digital side mirrors, 21-inch alloy wheels, digital IRVM, and heated and ventilated rear seats.

Both trims share a Forward Obstruction Warning system, Rear Collision Warning system, Smart Brake Support system, Smart Brake Support – Rear Crossing, Secondary Collision Reduction system, Lane-keeping Assist System, Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Departure Prevention, Emergency Lane Keeping system, and a host of other advanced driver assistance systems. Mazda also bundles nine airbags for passive safety as standard.

In addition to Thailand, Mazda has introduced the CX-6e in two more right-hand drive markets: New Zealand and Australia, where dealers expect first units to start arriving in showrooms later this month. In Australia, the company has received more than 2,000 pre-orders for the CX-6e and says 56 per cent of the customers have chosen the brand for the first time with this model, _Drive.com.au_ reported. Interestingly, it has yet to announce plans to launch either of its two Changan-Mazda JV-built EVs in its home market.
